Drain some liquid from the filter housing (all model year Dodge Ram diesels), especially if you live where it gets bitterly cold. This ensures that your getting all the water and some dirt out of the housing. :U:

id have to lay on the ground to do that on mine lol. every time im under my truck i crack it open for a second. make sure theres no water in it.

We were actually sent a letter by our dealer telling us this and they said it was mainly because of the quality of fuel is so pour that doing this would actually save your injectors

I don't know. Although that seems good advice one would have to ask is it necessary unless fuel is suspect or something similar since opening and removing and inspecting the filter canister can be a bit of a task if you are in a hurry or your lift pump is suspect (break the vac on the fuel and the truck won't start or get it air locked and have to bleed injectors)

Using the drain is ok but this won't tell you if you are running crappy fuel.

I think doing this at every maintenance interval is great advice - regardless of if you change the filter that time or not.

And here I sit having not have cracked that thing open in at least 6 or 7 years. Bet your local diesel sellers ain't gonna think much of this idea, and I won't even mention the EPA. Can you imagine what the parking lot is gonna look like after we all start doin this everytime we stop for fuel.

Sort of like a crack head with a runny nose - sniff, sniff, drip, drip...:ouch:

Wouldn't it be easier to install a "water in fuel warning lamp"?
Water sinks down anyways.
I have that already factory installed.
