drop fuel tank or pull the bed?
I need to install a new fuel sender and modify my truck for an air dog 150. I dont have an over head hoist in my shop would it be worth my time to build somethig to hoist off my bed. Or is it suitable to use a tranny jack and drop the fuel tank. Thanks:humm:

Pulling the bed can be more of a pain than it'll ever be worth. Jack it up a bit, and pull the tank (hopefully empty). Do you not have anyone locally that will let you rent a bay and lift?

i picked up the bed one time to change the pump on my old half ton dodge. it was a major pain in the ass. much easier to unbolt the straps and drop the tank.

Its ok, I am used to having fuel and hydraulic fluid running down my arm, Hahaha. I forgot I would also have to remove the Fifth wheel plates and hide-a-hitch plate.
I am just happy I don't have too lay in the gravel to work under the truck anymore. Thanks |
Use a floor or tranny jack with some plywood or planking to support the tank and drop it. Its too much trouble lifting the bed, IMO.

I would recommend either a tranny jack or if have have a quad jack around they work great for this.
Easier to drop the tank by hand than lift the bed IMHO. |
You can also lower the tank with ratchet straps. Of course, you will want it to be just about empty.

Use this as a guide and drop the tank. https://www.dieselbombers.com/24-val...-easy-way.html

Drop the tank, youll be surprised how easy it is. just make sure you got most of the stuff unhooked before you drop it too far so you dont break anything, drop it a little to make stuff acessable before taking it down.

The best reason for dropping the tank instead of lifting the bed is the fact that you can clean the tank out while it's out of the truck in case you open it up and find it all crusted up inside. I've seen em go both ways, my tank was clean as a whistle after 150,000 but I've helped a few others do this with far less miles and some of them were nasty inside with the pickup screens bein all crusted up.
