Harebrained idea

Ok, So I got a harebrained idea. Feel free to state your opinion and tell me I am smoking crack.

So, my 95, I love it, but my auto needs to be replaced, needs to be repainted, Head liner replaced, ect. Auto replacement if I go stock - $2500 (I "want" to put in a fully built DTT so $4500), a good paint job $2500 - $3500, other miscellaneous items $500 - $1000.

So, driving into work I thought, hey, why don't I pick up a 98 4 door longbed gasser and put my 12v in it. I already know that the Division of Motor vehicles is easy to overcome. So, some obvious things I have questions on is, the nv4500 behind the V10 the same as the diesel version? How would I get the ECM, and other electronics to work with the swap. luckily it is a 12V so no electronics there, but what about all the other stuff the ECM does. Swap out the front coils for some diesel coils, or use them off my 95. yada yada yada

I can pick up a used 98 4 door longbed V10 with less then 100K miles for less then 6K. Soo..... Transplant my very heathly 12V into a new body and trans.

Am I crazy for even thinking this? Or should I fix up my regular cab 95?

i don't think your crazy. in fact i've often considered the same idea. just haven't found the truck to tempt me yet and if i actually did it'd probably be into a v-10 super duty instead.

from what i've heard the trans would be ok. i would gueass that you would want to graft the 95's wire harness into the 98's. i'd pull the ecm anyway since you'd need nothing from it. you'll probably need to swap the fuel tanks and a good portion of the lines. i can't imagine it being all the hard. just a little time consuming is all.

nah yer a nut lol

you can buy stock replacment trans off ebay cheep! 1000-1200
this is my idea and i think i may go with it my self.

sell my truck get what i can for it and just buy the same thing just a manual trans.
i just have some rust to touch up before i try to sell it.
i think thats the easiest way..

or it would probably be esier to swap the tranny.

but i can't justify buying a who other truck and swapping motors.
what would you do with the truck you alreay have?
swap the v10 in to it? then what for a trans?

Well, I did just that. I sold the 95 and got a 07. Expensive swap ehe. =)

that depends on if you measure expense in money or bloodied knuckles i guess. congrats on the new truck. we can't wait to help you break it...errr break it in.
