some quetions...

this kid has a 07 cummins 5.9. my dream truck right there. but:
-he's smoking, alot. ive been reading up on it and some people say smoke for the 07's is bad? and they "cant smoke"
-also what exaclty IS the black smoke. heard its used fuel, unused fuel, heavily burn fuel, unburnt fuel. but what i dont get is the sled pullers smoke like hell, yet they mae tons of power, so if i understand correctly, they "waste" the unused fuel, yet still make tonsof power?

Most of the comments you hear about 07 & 08's not being able to smoke are directed at the 6.7 not the 5.9.

Because of the DPF and other EPA devices on the 6.7 they do not smoke as much at the 5.9's even with tweaking.

A 5.9 can and will smoke w/ more fuel and timing. Black smoke is unburnt unused fuel... more fuel than the motor can use at that moment.

You'll notice that once he actually gets into it and the turbo starts moving enough air the black smoke calms down. Once there is more air in the equation the motor can burn the fuel it is being fed. That is when the power comes on.
