What is the application and in what vehicle?

dukeboy_318 12-23-2008 02:06 PM

agreed, more info needed and what are the plans for this vehicle? personally, in a offroad truck built for trailers, i like the 241 combined with the 205, excellant low ratios, great for pulling. but thats in a low torque gasser, in a diesel, id go with the 271(which is under my truck right now) or the 300 with upgraded case and gears.

NP271... Why do you think the pullers use them still.

if monster trucks can handle a dana 300 im guessing my dodge should be able handle it:humm:

What monster truck runs an actual Dana 300? All those things are billet cases, billet gears, billet shafts, and high stress bearing. One out of an old CJ ain't gonna cut the muster.

i agree, most of those trucks are running billeted Atlas or even titan series transfer cases custom made for the stresses of that type of driving. the 271 would be the easiest and yet strong enough to handle almost anything you can put it through, everything should dang near bolt up, the driveshafts should even bolt up. the 205 would be great on a truck dedicated to mudding and pulling and could also handle the torque of a diesel but if you daily drive it, full time 4x4 does get annoying at times, ive got the 205 in my 78 dodge mudder with a 408 stroker dynoed at 570 hp and 595 ftlbs, been running it for ten yrs, no problems yet but i tried daily driving it and got sick of that quick.

need a new input shaft though for the transfer case

scottsjeeprolet 12-24-2008 07:50 PM

I'm pretty sure you just need the 3rd gen slip yoke and rear drive shaft work.

Yes it works, here is a write-up.

Putting a 271 t-case in a NV5600 2nd gen, yes it works - Competition Diesel.Com - Bringing The BEST Together
