block heater

i noticed my block heater is in my water in the side of my block. what im wondering is what is the temperature of that thing when it is plugged in? the reason im asking is because i have no anti-freexe just water trying to scrub my block of all the oil form that last incident with the headgasket. it got down to 18* last night and it didnt freeze anything put i had it plugged in. tonight it is supposed to get down to 5* and it is plugged in.:ouch:

probably around 100*-115*, my brother had his plugged in and when he started it on his attitude monitor it said his water temp was 112* so i imagine it would be right around there:humm:

94cummins12v 12-05-2008 12:00 AM

what would the water temp be in the head anythig close to that?

stkdram55 12-05-2008 12:45 AM

Im not sure but as long as it stays above 32* then it should be fine:humm:

hey man i just plugged one in here at work that we had taken out of a truck and it was climbing over 700* when i unplugged it, so they get really f-in hot:choochoo:

Id be thinking about dumping that water pretty soon...

Mine doesnt get anywhere near that hot.

stkdram55 12-05-2008 01:25 AM

you have to remember this was just out in the air and not in the block with water to keep it kind of cool, but just to note that it CAN get that hot

Dr. Evil 12-05-2008 01:38 AM

I didnt catch that....

stkdram55 12-05-2008 02:10 AM

stkdram55 12-05-2008 08:27 AM

94cummins12v 12-05-2008 11:20 AM

ok whats the best anit-freeze to run i mean i want the best. my brother sells service pro complete yellow concentrate antifreeze for $12.99 a gallon or we have dello anti-freeze at work in bulk, we run it in all our peterbilt superdumps and our kenwoth lowboys

Dr. Evil 12-05-2008 11:34 AM

The best thing to run is waterless coolant called Evans Cool. Like most good things - its not cheap.

You want Heavy Duty antifreeze for diesels as there are some special additives. Cummins carries it ans sell it as Zerex. I believe they have another brand for the larger engines.

never knew there was diff anti freezes.

Evans Cooling Systems, Inc. High Performance Engine Cooling and Power Production.

at $35 a gallon pass for right now

Dr. Evil 12-05-2008 11:20 PM

Youd never have to change it again. Its a lifetime coolant I believe.

94cummins12v 12-05-2008 11:53 PM

ya ill pass for now till after chrismas then ill start buying two gallons at a time till i get 12

Get an oil pan heater....some of the early Cummins oil pans have a plug already tapped in and that ZeroStart people have some good units. Warm oil is good to have on those cold nights - and it heats the whole engine. Sweet!

Holy thread resurrection Batman:s:

A pan heater will heat the oil but the water in the radiator and heater core won't get heat.

I hope that he has this taken care of by now:humm:
