2003 Texas CTD moving up north NEED ADVICE!
 

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums. I have a 2003 Laramie Ram 2500 with the Cummins and a 6 speed with 270k miles. I live in Texas currently but next month I am moving to Minneapolis, and I would love to get some input and advice on things that I need to watch out for and ways to keep my 2 wheel drive on the road.

It only has intake, exhaust and tune. 20x10 wheels with all terrain tires. Haven't found the plug for the glow plug heater yet, but haven't looked.

Also, my windows are very dark, I have a straight pipe and no silencer ring. Am I looking for trouble?

And I refuse to sacrifice my perfect truck to the salt and rust gods of the north so all advice is welcome! Thanks!

Well, here goes..... Get a block heater for your truck, as youre gonna need it. My truck didn't come with one, so I went on ebay and got one for 25 bucks, shipped, but that was 7 years ago. Not sure how much they are these days. But first, before you go about buying one, take a look at the passenger side of the engine, btwn the oil filter and turbo. You should see an electrical cord sticking out of the block. Follow the cord and you should find where its folded, stored and zip-tied. As for salted roads, well that's gonna be tricky. See if you can coat the underbody with rubberized under-coating....lots of it. Or, coat with Roll-on DIY Truck bed liner. Or, even see if you can get it done wherever truck bed liners are applied, such as an Auto Paint shop or body shop. Your A/T tires should be good for the snow there. If you have chains, use them. Generally, light throttle, slower speeds, and increased braking distance will help. When I was in Flagstaff, AZ I carried roughly 6-8 sandbags in the bed for the extra weight and increased traction. The main issue, is gonna be the other drivers. Keep your head on a swivel..........
