VP 44 help!

hey guys, i have a buddy with a first gen 12 valve sitting in his 86 blazer, but he is having some issues with the motor. He started off by having a new vp44 pump put on the motor and timed by a guy we thought was handy, turns out he wasnt and the pumps key was sheared and it was not put on properly, he also said that 2 injectors were no good. The key has been replaced and the pump is timed, and 2 injectors have been rebuilt, the problem is the truck is poring white smoke and literally blowing raw fuel out of the tail pipe. :humm:

What do you guys think? Again we both know pretty well nothing about the VP44's, and my only experience with injectors was on an L10 cummins and we had to have them all rebuilt, and "pop" tested to ensure the pressures are within 3 bar i believe it was. I think they might still be the issue as he hasnt had any of the injectors pop tested, and just sent 2 to be rebuilt assuming the rest were fine, even though we all know what happens when we just assume things! :w2:

Any input would be greatly appreciated, as he is having his first child soon and this project will be put on hold! Thanks! :c:

I'm pretty sure the injectors for VP's and mechanical 12 Valves have much different pop pressures.
Without a Cam/Crank position sensor feeding the computer, and telling the VP to fire, it likely won't run at all. Idle at the best.

Is this a conversion somehow, or is it a VE rotary mechanical injection pump that is installed?

I'm pretty sure you have a VE pump and not a VP44 pump...

VP44's were on 24v's and are computer controlled injection pumps.

VE pumps are mechanical pumps that came on first gen 12v motors.

there was a 12v vp44 motor but it never came out of a dodge.

it came from a genset and was an industrial motor only, never an over the road motor. and it was still computer controlled.

sounds like you need to have someone who knows what they are doing time the pump.
