I want more smoke

I no smoke doesn't mean power. I have a 97 cummins with auto trans. The guy I bought it from says it has a factory rebuild and they did something different with clutch. It also has 150hp injectors. I also took silencer ring out of turbo. And turned star wheel up a little bit. My truck is plenty fast enough for me and has plenty of towing power. I want more smoke. I am getting very very very little amounts of smoke. I know that means its tuned well but I want to roll coal can I get some advise and I don't wanna burn my truck up either. I have my gauges how hot can i go. I appreciate any help. SMOKE

throw the spare tire in the truck bed and set it on fire.

perhaps a wood stove in the truck bed and burn some fresh green branches...

or just buy a pack of cigarettes and smoke like a chimney? lol

delete the turbo....

plastic bag over the air filter...

To smoke you need more fuel & less air, but keep an eye on your E G T:scare2:

dodge97cummins 11-27-2013 06:55 PM

how high can my egts get on a rev for a short acceleration and still be safe. What would you recomend changing with the fuel for best smoke without burning up turbo. like star gear or what.

brickhouse15 11-28-2013 07:18 PM

EGTs are like sticking your hand in the oven: you can stick it in for a couple seconds and not get burnt, but the longer you spend at 1400* and beyond you will start to tear some things up. The melting point of aluminum pistons is 1600*.

skirk55 11-29-2013 03:14 PM

If you like smoke do it and enjoy it! Everyone knows there are people that do not like smoke. I do not like smoke because of attention. I do not put decals on my windows. My truck is deleted, leveling kit,add a leaf and Nitto Trrra Grappler 305/70/17.
I get so tired of small minded people that give a stupid answer to a question. Just do not answer the post.
This has me so let down by people or members of this forum. Try to help people with ther Dodge questions. Try to make friends out there. I have met people in Va.,De and Florida.

Aluminum melts at about 1220* look it up

when overly fueled you will have smoke. with 150HP injectors and an hx35 how can you NOT smoke at WOT. It is doubtful that you have 150HP injectors if your pump is tuned up.

dodge97cummins 11-30-2013 10:19 PM

When I bought the truck from a guy I know he said 150 hp injectors. I only turned the star wheel up a little more than he had it when I stomp on the gas my egts climb up to about 1200ish

Do any of u guys no if the factory rebuilds are any good.

brickhouse15 12-01-2013 09:13 AM

Yes factory rebuilds are good. And many people have trailered in the mountains at 1200* for many miles without problems. A little hot for me, but if you are moving the air in and out quickly no damage will be done. 1200* is a perfectly safe temperature.

olsmokey 12-01-2013 10:00 AM

you turned the starwheel up, have 150 sticks and a factory turbo? if it doesnt smoke like a freight train, your egt's should be threw the roof atleast.

dodge97cummins 12-01-2013 08:25 PM

If I continue to turn star wheel will I get a lot of smoke or should I get like a fuel plate or turn smoke screw:argh:

olsmokey 12-02-2013 07:49 AM

in my 96 i blocked the waste gate ground my fuel plate to #100 and did the afc rack travel mods and under load it would smoke like hell. to much for my liking until it got spooled up, and other than that my truck was stock beside cold air and 4 inch exhuast

Colcol 12-05-2013 10:05 PM

You should be rolling coal. Unless you pesonally know the previous owner i wouldnt take his word for it. Anyways it seems people are getting off topic. If all things are correct you should be blowing a decent amount of smoke enough to make the hippies follow you even. EGTs i wouldnt go over 1200 and even then I wouldnt stay there for short period of time even. And rolling coal is great!! Some day soon hopefully I will blowing smoke.

illinoisfox 12-06-2013 06:45 AM

Where is the pyro mounted?
Is it in the exhaust manifold or the elbow after the turbo?

There is a big difference in readings.

dodge97cummins 12-06-2013 10:31 PM

I am not sure i will check:argh:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I will have another conversation about the truck with the guy I got it from I do know him I'm gonna be pissed if not right injectors:bat:

To each his own. But, smoke shows are causing new regulations that are hurting us. Think about what impact you cause.

YMMOT 12-07-2013 01:19 PM

Plastic bag over your air filter, or you could grind ever other fin off your turbo to reduce boost.

Is there anyway I can tell what injectors i have.

dodge97cummins 12-11-2013 07:23 PM

Could the transmision have anything to do with the smoke cause the I bought it from said it still smokes when u pull a load which I haven't done yet. He also said it smoked a lot before the trans he told me it takes load off the engine which takes away smoke. Could this be possible?:scare2:

This will do the trick every time! :tttt:

dodge97cummins 01-15-2014 09:35 PM

What turbo would it take to be able to put an extreme race cam in it and marine 370hp injectors. Then exhaust and air intake. With reasonable egts and I wanna roll coal freight train:c::rocking:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Can't figure out how to start new thread sorry

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Sorry forgot #0 fuel plate slid forward all the way

illinoisfox 01-16-2014 08:00 AM

Your use of the word 'extreme ", tells me you are only experienced with gasoline motors.

You don't cam a diesel like you do a gasoline motor, overlap is what makes a gas motor lope.
overlap on a diesel will kill it. Go over to cummins forum and sign in and reaoed thier stickies.

dodge97cummins 01-16-2014 08:23 PM

When I was looking at the cams for my 12v that's what the performance sights were calling it but will do
