Thinking of purchasing a Spool-Aid Boost tube
Hey Gang, Im thinking of buying a Spool-Aid Boost tube for my beast. Anyone running one of these. Depanding on responses, I may buy the boost tube kit or just modify the stock one. They are a bit pricey just for the boost tube kit. Anyone??

Aw C'mon! Anyone??:sen:

Dont make me have to go to another forum site.............:bat:
|
Whats a spool aid is it anything like kool aid :humm:
|
Funny! Check it out on line. Looks cool and logical to me. Its supposed to allow air directly to #1 and #6 cylinders from modified boost tube, on cummins engines. Might have to research reviews on line.
|
Interesting you get one yet :humm:
|
Looks like a great idea. Hoping for feedback on it. Ya looked it up yet? Im really tempted, considering what its supposed to do for #1 and #6 cylinders.
|
I say go for it, everything I have read says it is nothing but positive gains.

Out of curiosity where are you purchasing that kit from Redd? I cant find any.
|
Pusher is making it now but I think they call theirs Cross-Air. Diesel Power Source also has them available. Its pretty pricey though. I think I'll make one. I'll get another boost tube from ebay, and round up other parts from there as well. I can weld and fabricate, so I think it will be cheaper that way. I kinda have alot going on right now, so This project will have to be pushed to the back burner for now. If you havent seen it, try spool-aid or cross-air on google. Its a great Idea. I like that tunnel ram plate also, but thats also pricey.

Alright I'll definitely look into it I did some reading into it already it seems pretty interesting thats for sure.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Heres a good question... those freeze plug ports it taps into arent coolant ports just open passages? ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Do you have to remove your head to install the freeze plug tapping tubes? |
THose "freeze plugs" do not have coolant behind them. Just open passages, and installed like regular freeze plugs. And, no you you dont have to remove the head. At best you may have to remove the driver side front tire and maybe pop part of the fender well loose, to gain better access. Ive seen the plugs on my engine and theyere about 1 1/2" in diameter. The rear one definately looks like a PITA to get to tho.

I thought we had decided you were gonna get one and report your results here :humm::w2:
Hell, if the accrued cost comes pretty close or equal to the cost of a ready made kit, I'll just buy it, BUT still wont be able to get to it for a while. Ya catch my drift?:pca1: |

I ran up an estimate of the cost of this project, the boost tube is only around 120 bucks the rubber hump clamps around 50 bucks the smaller pipe shouldnt be to terribly priced but idk how youd go about tapping into those freeze plugs without the pipes blowing out under pressure. Just seems like a headache more than anything id rather do a kit although homemade would definitely be cheaper.

Yep, there are pros and cons to everything. Those dom pipes are supposed to be tapped/ hammered into the ports, so they gotta be a tight fit. But, I dunno :humm: Thats why I was hoping to see or get reviews on this from the ones who have them.
Ive even thought about the tunnel ram plate as well, but I cant build one of those. Seems each one has its pros and cons. |
I just built a make shift one on my 99 different then the newer ones but would love to feel the results being as the older ones have only a 3/4 port to flow air through. I just torched a hole in my intercooler pipe welded on a threaded 3/4" nipple took the plug out threaded in a 3/4" nipple to the head since it's a threaded plug and ran a braided stainless water heater line since they are pressure and heat rated from nipple to nipple. Obviously I am a plumber by trade. But so far it seems like it was worth the hour or so. temps are down a little and spool seems a little better. Haven't pushed it real hard yet just got done saturday only a couple thousand pounds behind the truck today. Also I am carrying a 3/4" cap and plug in my truck just in case the line is not as strong as it looks. 10 bucks at lowes for the line few more dollars per nipple.
