6.7 belt and pulled noise

My friend has a 07 ram 3500 drw with a tow body and under reach the truck has issues from day one alot of wiring crap on like someone cut the wires to the engine and rewired them rather then then just unplugging them i'm think this truck begain life as a 5.9 and some blew it up? not sure and put a 6.7 in the truck reason i say they the truck acts more like a 5.9 then a 6.7 but anyway the truck sounds when idling that there's a lose pulley and the belt makes noise and doesn't go away when you get the rpm up there any one have idea of what could cause this or has any one else with 6.7 had this problem ?

Check your idler pulley(s). They have sealed bearings that sometimes go dry and start making noise. Take the belt off the pulley and free spin the pulley(s). If you hear a light grinding noise or rattle noise, it may be time to replace the idler or re-grease the bearing. With a little finess, you can pry off the bearing seal and repack the bearing and put the seal back. I repack my idlers about every 30k or so.
Also check for play on the waterpump pulley, power steering pulley, alternator pulley, and A/C pulley. I think Im missing one.:humm: And, check the belt for defects.

Use a stethoscope. That will narrow it down to whats making the noise!

thanks for the help also on the same truck can i do that swiss cheese stock air box mod along with taking the sliencer ring off it like you can do with the 5.9? like i did with my 5.9 and it made a hell of a diffence so i was wonder if you could do in on 6.7 or would it it not like it ?

Yes you can. Not slure about the silencer ring. I think its pinned.

You might try searching in this site for silencer removal procedure. Type that into the "search" box, and you will likely get your information.:tu:
