Air Box
How would taking just the top of the air box cover off, would that do anything or help anything intill you got a cold air intake?
|
Do a BHAF (Big Honkin Air Filter) and Old Smokey mount...
The Part number's for the BHAF's are John Deere PMAH19037 Carquest 87790 Hastings AF1012 Donaldson B105006 Baldwin PA2820 Wix 42790 Napa 2790 Fleetguard AH19037 I'll get a pic of the mount up as soon as photobucket starts working again! :D |

excellent post, I'm finally going to do something about my OEM filter. here I come, Napa!
|
I love my BHAF, dont have teh mount made yet. Never can find the time.
|
I picked the filter up today and I'm contemplating making the bracket/shroud for it right now, I'm really tempted at 5:30 in 105 degree heat to just throw the filter on and go home to the air conditioning!!
|
I had the mount on mine but had a serious problem with the hose working its way off the filter and sucking in unfiltered air. Rather than destroy my engine I took the mount off and the hose stays connected now
|
I'm using my OEM hose and found the that the lip on the filter is tapered just a bit and is slightly too small. so I did what any professional technician would do and wrapped the lip of the filter with electrical tape.
I guess I could get a piece of tubing that fit into the ID of the filter opening(what it looks like it was designed for) and weld that to another piece of tubing that properly fit inside the OEM turbo hose but...the clamp over e-tape worked pretty good...unless it comes loose and sucks the tape into the compressor...:argh: |
grease im with you on that one electrical tape does the job...my bhaf mount is the stock airbox trimmed up, left maybe the bottom 1/3 of the filter box so i can use the bolt that goes to the fender well to hold it there and trimmed the front and back off so it kinda cradles the filter...works perfect

The factory clamp is just a hair to big! Tape works too though... :D |
i posted wong earlier i meant to say i did this on my 90 model, my 93 model dosent have the big long stud that sticks through the centers like my 90 model, so i couldnt do this mod at home until i find a stud style filter mount.....

hah, any of your guys have family from WV? i moved here like 4 er 5 years ago and west virginians have an odd mechanical ability to use next to nothing to make something work... even if it is for 5 mins to run it up the road... i've seen duct tape used on the exhaust to hold it and seal it....
|
haha, no but I do know that the green military duct tape WILL hold and seal a radiator hose under pressure on a chevy truck!
I'm caught in a strange niche working on high dollar turbine aircraft...that are crop spraying, ag machines. you know weird stuff gets done in ag to get through another day... |

I went one step further and custom fitted the airbox so the front fits against the front support and the bottom is radiused to fit the inner fender with about 1/2" on the bottom trimmed to allow the light harness to fit under it.
I also made the top wider to fit all the way to the fender inner side and the made a rear piece to close off the back. Mine is 3 pieces held together with angle brackes and sheet metal screws.... This was necesitated so that I could pull my air filter - an AmsOil 4510 - which fits snug against the fender. I need to get some nice rubber bends like RSWORDS has and get rid of the ends from the original rubber intake.....One of these days :w2::w2: |
