Air Box
How would taking just the top of the air box cover off, would that do anything or help anything intill you got a cold air intake?

Do a BHAF (Big Honkin Air Filter) and Old Smokey mount...

The Part number's for the BHAF's are
John Deere PMAH19037
Carquest 87790
Hastings AF1012
Donaldson B105006
Baldwin PA2820
Wix 42790
Napa 2790
Fleetguard AH19037

I'll get a pic of the mount up as soon as photobucket starts working again! :D

i took the round cover off my 93, and just left the flat vertical mounting plate with the filter bolted to it.......picked up about 12-15 mph on cold nights and noticed the truck had alot more get up and go.......it sucks cold clean air from around the head light.....

Ya that's what I was thinking just take the cover off and run it like that till I get the ASA cold air.

excellent post, I'm finally going to do something about my OEM filter. here I come, Napa!

RSWORDS 07-20-2009 07:04 PM

I love my BHAF, dont have teh mount made yet. Never can find the time.

I picked the filter up today and I'm contemplating making the bracket/shroud for it right now, I'm really tempted at 5:30 in 105 degree heat to just throw the filter on and go home to the air conditioning!!

I had the mount on mine but had a serious problem with the hose working its way off the filter and sucking in unfiltered air. Rather than destroy my engine I took the mount off and the hose stays connected now

greasemonkey 07-23-2009 02:33 PM

I'm using my OEM hose and found the that the lip on the filter is tapered just a bit and is slightly too small. so I did what any professional technician would do and wrapped the lip of the filter with electrical tape.

I guess I could get a piece of tubing that fit into the ID of the filter opening(what it looks like it was designed for) and weld that to another piece of tubing that properly fit inside the OEM turbo hose but...the clamp over e-tape worked pretty good...unless it comes loose and sucks the tape into the compressor...:argh:
