Chassis Cab axle width?????'s

A friend of mine has an old Chevy welding truck that he wants to replace with a Dodge. My (his) question is this, is there a chassis cab Dodge that has a narrower rear axle than the standard dually like his old Chevy? The reason he wants a narrower axle is because of where he works a standard dually would get tore up on rocks too bad. He drove a 07 Dodge dually to see if it would work for him but it won't. I suggested putting 19.5's on his 99 SRW and heavy duty tires but other welders he knows have tried that route and it didn't work so well. He'll have the flatbed, welder, fuel tank, bottles, a crane and the usual tools so the load will be hefty. Just looking for some input from folks. Thanks.

there's a 91 and '00 cab & chassis truck at my work, I can measure them on monday...

what didn't work well for the guys running 19.5's?

The tires only lasted 25k if that I guess. Having all that weight on there all the time was too much for one tire I guess.
