Cummins 3a1.7 in dodge d50???

Ok, time to quiz all the experts out there. I have a dodge d50(Mitsubishi mighty max) with no motor and i was given a 3 cylinder cummins 3a1.7 for free that runs amazing. I already know that there are much better motor choices out there for a swap like this but it was all free and there is no going back now. I consider myself to be fairly mechanically inclined but I am new to diesels for the most part. Looking for a few pointers....

This motor has a stanadyne pump and is I believe governed to 1800 rpm. Being a 1.7 liter im sure that it could turn higher and still be safe. Could anyone confirm that, and also can this pump be modded to push a bit more diesel and can I adjust the governor? A turbo is in the future. Any suggestions on turbo choice? Any insight would be great I hate going into a big swap like this without doing the research.

Thanks,
Aaron

Sorry I have been gone so long. This project (and others) has kept me off of the computer for the most part. The motor is in the truck and I drove it around the block today. God is she ever SLOW!!!!! But its awesome! Still have plenty of loose ends to tie up on this little truck but I will try to get some pictures up soon.

yeah, that pump can go higher than 1800, and I think that engine will redline somewhere around 3000. My 4A2.3 is rated at 3600 rpm...

The only problem with these engines is that the naturally aspirated vs turbocharged engines came with different pistons. the turbocharged engines came standard with hard anodized pistons, so putting a turbo onto an engine that did not originally come with one has slight potential for harm... If it were me though, I'd throw a turbo on it anyway! haha

I have a bosch pump, so i'm not sure how customizable the standyne pump is, but im sure it can be modded for more power.

The a-series engines put off a lot of heat, so maybe get a small intercooler to keep intake temps low after getting a turbo, or a cold air intake without a turbo, and you might notice an increase in power there too.
