s-10 diesel swap

I am new to the fourms and fairly new to diesels but I have done some searching but with my work schedule and other projects it's hard to make time right now so dont bash me too bad if someone could help with some info and suggestons or point me in the right direction i'd greatly appericate it thanks..

I am looking to put a diesel in my 93 2wd single cab s-10. It's my DD im not to worried about emissions as i live in fl and it dosent seem to be a prob around my area so wanting it to be reliable and fairly decent on fuel it has the 2.8 with a 5 speed now but the motor is about to go so just biding time right now to save up a little more i would like to put a cummings in it im leaning towards the 3.3 4bt with a tremec 600 tranny thought about the 3.9 but size seems to be a prob unless i lift my truck which i dont really wanna do i wanna stay around stock height and i dont plan on pulling anything besides a small utility trailer with my mower or atv every now and then i have a 07 duramax for towing i mainly just want relaiblity and mpg but dont want to get run over trying to get on the road lol. also i plan on rebuilding/upgrading the rearend and was thinking about 3.73 gears??

The 3.3 was not near as good of a motor as the 3.9 but I guess if that's what you want

mcpyro3 04-23-2012 08:51 AM

ya but i keep hearing that the 3.9 wont fit unless i lift my truck 3in or cut a hole in the hood to allow the motor to clear plus i've also read the you can put a intercooler on the 3.3 and it will be close to a n/a 3.9 i aint looking for a bunch of power just dont wanna get ran over i've got my dmax for power

Fire Power 04-23-2012 10:55 AM

If you want something simple just use the factory Isuzu 2.2 L diesel engine

they seem to be harder to come by and at only 50ish hp and i think 106 tq my gas 2.8 would be better i do light highway driving and dont want to take 10miles to get up to speed im trying to look more into the 3.3 cummings cuz i hear they can get high 20's to low 30's when setup properly and have decent power behind them and can find them alot easier

Fire Power 04-23-2012 12:27 PM

go for it I was just giving my 2 cents:c::c:

mcpyro3 04-23-2012 12:33 PM

i would like the 3.9 as from what i hear its a better motor and more aftermarket parts n all but from what ive read is the fitment issue. i would like to hear from those that have done it to confirm it or not b/c that was my 1st choice

and i appericate it:c: just wish others would chime in also

Me and several others are diving into a 2.2l Kubota going into a truck like youre saying. I wouldn't have gotten one until i seen a guy use nothing but these engines in everything he had, including trucks

mcpyro3 04-25-2012 09:40 AM

ya i've looked a little into the smaller engines but i just dont think they will have enough power behind them i dont really need it as its gonna be my DD but i want some power behind it

deck60 04-25-2012 08:45 PM

3.3

I actually used and seen one of these engines today it was on a hydraulic power-pack and was really impressed they look like about an 85 hp you could probably get 100 hp out of them

if I remember right I had a 82 datsun pickup and it had a 4cy non turbo diesel @ 45hp and it did fine

Just so you know, the 3.3 isn't a 4bt by any means. I don't know if you typo'd in the OP or not but just my .02. It's actual name is a B3.3. They're not bad engines if you know your way around them. I do however think an Isuzu swap would be more ideal. And they're not that hard to come by.

mcpyro3 04-28-2012 12:55 PM

i've found a few decent isuzu's a couple of 2.8s tbd and 3.1s tbd for sale anybody heard or know anything about them?? i hear the 2.8s are good reliable engines as long as you get one with a timing chain instead of belts i appericate the help/info :c:

mcpyro3 07-09-2012 10:18 AM

ok i found a deal on a running c223turbo it comes with a 4x4 4 speed tranny which i have no use for my question is how easy and whatelse is needed in the install into a 2wd s10? after reading online the motor should drop right onto the existing mounts just gotta make sure the oil pan clears and if i read correctly my t-5 should bolt right up to it? some said i had to use the isuzu bellhousing others said just change input shaft.. thanks for any info/help in advance

mcpyro3 08-14-2012 09:57 AM

well i got the c223t starting to go into my s10 now my biggest prob right now is gonna be getting a transmission to work they make a bellhousing that will bolt to my t-5 and work with the c223 but locating one seems to be the prob so now im looking at prob getting a whole new tranny. we are gonna set my glow plugs up on a push button system and guages im not to worried about atm b/c once i get it running good im putting all aftermarket guages in. i plan on using the stock s10 rad as i just bought it not too long ago and its a 2 row rad so i should be fine for this lil diesel plus im putting an electric fan on it instead of the manual fan might save 1hp lol. the only thing concerning me right now besides tranny is the weight of the c223 vs. the 2.8 gas has anybody had to put stiffer coils in the front or do the stocks work fine?

junkyard 08-18-2012 11:13 AM

mcpyro3 08-18-2012 12:54 PM

Man,I read a couple different write ups on the Kobota swap just the other night and Im a fullsize truck guy and always will be.....screw mpgs imo but,wow......they are adapting them to the 5 speed trans they already have, cruising 70-80 mph with no problem and reporting 45 mpg.......what more can you ask from an s-10?..... if I was going to do an s-10 deisel conversion it would be a no brainer for me!..... myself,I plan on putting a 24v cummins into a SAS 99 suburban on 1 tons and 38"s (eventually) but,Im an idiot like that!.....just my .02

mcpyro3 09-20-2012 08:33 PM

ya i love my dmax for power but mpg aint so great my s10 is just gonna be my around town and work truck lucky me i got ahold of a 84 factory diesel s10 so my swap has been pretty easy so far and the donor truck ran so im just swapping everything over

DieselS10 04-01-2013 11:14 PM

Got this thing on the road yet? :pca1:

mcpyro3 04-02-2013 05:04 AM
