94 12valve going into a 94 f250

First off I'm a newb to the cummins, I'm taking my powerstroke out and was wondering if anyone here has done the swap using the ford drivetrain? I already have my 12v, I'm rebuilding it now. I was wondering if any one had advise on the engine mounts, and if it would be easier to use the idi wiring harness

I highly recommend FordCummins for the motor mounts. You can make your own motor mounts, but its so much easier on you if you buy them. If you plan on using the Ford tranny, you will have to buy an adapter plate, move the crossmember back a bit, and shorten the driveshaft.

Shouldnt need the wiring harness except for you temp and oil pressure gauges.

Is their a way to do it without moving everything back?

Maybe if you use electric fans. With the inline configuration, the Cummins is longer than most engines in the Fords. You might could leave the drivetrain where it is, your limitations would be the space in the front of the engine compartment.

I planned on using electric fans, how far did you have to move your drivetrain using the dodge tranny? Are you using electric fans? I'm looking for any kind of input before I start trying to squeeze the cummins in.

I have a 12 valve with Getrag 360 setup in my truck. I used the IDI wiring harness spliced together with the air heater grid controller from the 1st Gen Dodge donor truck. It's pretty straight forward wiring, especially with an IDI harness.

With the Getrag, I had to move the tranny crossmember back one bolt hole (basically lining up the front bolt holes on the crossmember with what were the rear bolt holes in the frame, then drill new rear bolt holes), so it didn't move a whole lot, but the Getrag may not be what you are working with. If you use the thinner Dodge radiator (which may take core suppurt modifications) and electric pusher fans on the front of the radiator (assuming you don't have an intercooler), then you might be able to squeeze it in without moving the drivetrain back.

As for motor mounts, I'd have to agree that you will save lots of time and trouble sourcing a set of pre-made mounts specifically for the application...such as ones from fordcummins.com - Increase Horsepower with Ford Cummins Diesel conversion kits or Destroked - THE Cummins Conversion Company : Home Page. I ended up fabbing my own, but it would have been worth the money to not have to end up with the butchered and cobbled crossmember I ended up with in the end. :ouch:

I was going to pull all of the drive train, but the tranny and the t case where cracked, so I just pulled the engine. I will be using a inercooler, but not the dodge, my truck already has a hypermax inercooler so I thought I would use it if I can, still pulled the dodge one just in case. Since my truck had the powerstroke will I have problemswith using the idi harness? Does any one have any good pics of their conversion?

How far back did you move your drive train?

I'm not sure if the IDI and Powerstroke harnesses swap over that easily... :humm:

I started with an IDI truck, so it was fairly straitforward seeing as it was already setup for a mechanical motor and no ECU...
