I think I'm in the right area now thanks to you guys.

I've been using VW diesel engines for about 15 years or so in the Samurai's and Sidekick/trackers.

Anyone else running a VW diesel in a Samurai here?

Here's a pic of the VW diesel (1.9TD from a Canadian Passat) in my old Suzuki Samurai.

Here's some more pics.

1987 Suzuki Samurai Hardtop, 33 inch tires, crossover steering, 1.9TD with RX7 oil cooler, remote oil filter, 5 speed, stock drive train, SPOA lift. I get 27-30 mpg on ULSD. Off road diesel I get 50 miles a tank full more!

awesome!

didn't some of the sammys come with a diesel from the factory?

Yes, the Suzuki Samurai's (Jimney & Sierra) over in Europe got the 1.9 Puegot diesel motors. North America never got them.

I need more info. Anything you can spare the time to post on here or send me. I got a 95 Tracker sittin in the driveway just screamin for one a these things. Been wantin to do somethin with it cause it's a California Emissions truck and sucks to work on. Conversion cost, parts suppliers, things to watch out for or any other info would be appreciated.

I love these Trackers cause they are so cheap and easy to work on. Sammy's make better off roaders but you can't keep the rust off of em and the trackers are pretty fair for off-road themselves as long as they the manual trannies.

Yes, the Sidekicks and Trackers are good off-road rigs and ride nicer than the Samurai, in my opinion, because of the coil suspension. My 2 door Sidekick has a 2 inch spring spacer lift and I'm running 30 inch tires. I'm getting 37-40mpg with the 1.6 TD on the hiway. My Samurai has a 1.9TD and I only get 30mpg running on 33's. Still good for a 4x4.

Its pretty strait forward conversion using the VW Engine and an Acme kit. You will probably spend about $2,500 with regard to overall parts if you don't fab them up yourself. Stuff like a radiator, cooling fan, bolting hardware, mounts, adapter plate, glow plug relay harness, throttle cable, tach converter, Acme oil pan (if no Calmini lift), etc..., plus your engine of choice.

Pretty much all the information you'll need is on the ACME ADAPTERS Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel website. If you still want more info, you can email from the website. You'll want kit number 6.

I source my motors at Quality German in Montclaire, CA. Car-parts.com is another place to find them. The VW diesel motors came in Golfs, Jettas, Rabbits, Passats. Best to stay away from the Quantum as its turbo placement is not user friendly (placed too low) but can be made to work. Just be aware that alot of the VW engines that have been sitting a while may require you to purge the injection pump with some Lubro Moly. I had to do that to my 1.6TD in my Sidekick.

Hope that helps, eh.
