95 6.5T swapped into an 80's gasser

I am planning on swapping a 95 6.5 turbo into an 80 gasser. How can I get the brakes to work? The suburban I got the engine from ran the brakes off the powersteering pump and the 80s have a regular gas vacuum booster. Can I just hook the brake booster to the vacuum pump on the diesel? Or run another vacuum pump? Either off the engine or an electric pump.

How do most conversions into gas rigs get the brakes to work properly?

Just get the break booster off of a 6.2 truck I think it's 85 or 86 that they started having the o-ring flare lines that will be direct fit for u look at the flare on ur lines u will see what I'm talking about

Thanks for the info. Justing to get everything lined up so the swap goes as smooth as possible. It would really suck to get the engine in and then realize I don't have brakes! lol

Will the gas tank and lines work for diesel or will I need to run new lines and put in a new pickup in the tank of the 80? Planning on putting an inline pump/filter somewhere in the system instead of the mech pump on the side of the block.

On my swap I ran the vaccuum off of the power steering pump.

I ran all new fuel lines for mine, but Im pulling through the stock fuel pump (disconnected). Didnt change anything in the gas tanks, just disconnected the power to the pump, and fuel gauge still works :tu:

Heck I would just use the mechanical pump on the block of the 6.5 if possible.

There isn't a mech pump on the 6.5 so I'd need to get one for it or just put in an electric pump. I'll cross that bridge when I get to rebuilding the engine. Not to big of a deal either way I wouldn't think.

Not sure how to get vaccuum from a PS pump, but I'll look into it. That might be the easiest way to get stuff hooked up.

Thanks for the info.

My power steering pump had a vaccuum hookup on it, but thats a different engine.

and not a prob :tu:

You have to go to a hydroboost brake system. Put a electric fuel pump on it. It's just easier to deal with if you run it out of fuel or have the fuel system apart you can just run the pump instead of cranking it for the rest of your life to get it primed.

hmmm that last part is an idea :humm:

Mid 70's Gm started using Hydroboosts in their 1 tons. You should be able find one rather easily. The real difference between the pumps is the extra retun line that is in the side of the reservoir. I also agree with the electric pump. If you use the stock parts on the turbo swap, the turbo oil return line goes on the mounting pad that the mechanical pump went. Hope this helps

Thanks for the info everyone. I gotta get some swapping done to the rear end (putting a rear end with posi into this rig, but need to replace all the bushings and such while it is out and easy to get to. Then I'll dive into rebuilding the 6.5! Hopefully no suprises when I tear the block open.
