Getrag Help!

hey, i have found a decent deal on a getrag360. I bought a 91 d250 to do a swap into my 75 f250 4x4, as some of you know the 75 fords had a divorced transfer case. The getrag 360 is a 4x4 transmission I just need to know if the only part i need to change is the tail piece to make this tranny 2wd? or do i need to change any output shaft or anything else?

Thanks :rocking:

You have to pull the main and input shafts and strip the main of all the gears and bearings and put in a 2WD main shaft then the 2WD tail shaft I have a main shaft if you want to go that route and a rebuild kit is not a bad idea since your that far in there

Well, it looks like I need to find a 2wd tranny then, I hope a zf5 from a 7.3l

if you want to stick with divorced, get a 2wd trans. Those little things add up. If your deep enough into it, you should consider just getting an nv4500. They aren't terribly expensive if you shop around, last one i got for $500.

Ya, if I could find one for 500 I would buy that. I have not seen many up in the Seattle area. The only transmission I have seen latley was a 4x4 getrag, and im not sure I want to do all that work to change it over to a 2wd. What is different about a chevy nv4500? I have heard that they are build weaker then the dodge ones, what about bellhousings bolting up the same? I.e would a cummins bellhousing bolt to a chev nv4500?

bellhousings will interchange. input shafts between cummins and late chevy 4500 without the granny 1st will interchange with their respective retainer.
the chevy shaft is thinner but has a harmonic dampner.

hey Big Bad Diesel, how much would that shaft run? or would you do a trade my old 4x4 shaft for your 2wd shaft? and what about a tail shaft?
