Tach Question
I have a 94 f-350 that I swapped a 92 cummins into it used to have a 460 in it. The only thing that I havent figured out yet is how to hook up the tach in the dash. I do have an autometer tach that is a two wire system that runs off of the alternator. Any sugestions on how to make it work.

This is some installation info I could find for the Autometer Tachs. Maybe it's of some help ?

Auto meter tach work but I would like to make the tach in the dash work if possible. Thanks for the diagrams.

You will need a tach sensor from a older 7.3 or 6.9. It's a two wire sensor that is on the inj. pump gear housing, next to the oil fill cap. You can only get them from ford or a scrap yard. Fordcummins and destroked both sell kits (sensor, tach ring, custom sensor bracket) To do it on your own, you will need to make a bracket for the tach sensor. Your tach needs 4 pulses (diesel tachs are more) to operate and your 12v should have two notches in the balancer, so you'll have to grind two more notches, 1/4" wide by 1/4" deep. The sensor should be gapped .018-.020 from the balancer. For wiring, ground one wire to ground (either one) and wire the other one to the wht/pnk wire from your tach. Fordcummins says to cut the wht/pnk where it goes into the ECM and connect direct to the sensor, bypassing the ECM. You might be better off getting the kit form destroked or fordcummins, but they are a couple hundred bucks. I posted a thread on hear about anyone using the dodge cps but no replies, not sure if it can work or not
