1968 chevy

i'm trying to build the truck off of the latest fast and furious. they said that it was a 67 but my brother has a 68 cab and chassis one ton. i also can get a 96 powerstroke that has a great motor in it for 1500 bucks. but i also have been thinking of putting a 98 12 valve in it. i have some experience with powerstrokes and i could do everything myself. so my real question is if you were in my shoes what would you do?

Lange503 12-28-2010 09:05 PM

depends on what your goals are really, the 12 valve might be cheaper if your are going for big power, but the powerstroke is still a damn good motor and can still be done up easily

i'm kind of biased but i've driven a lot of 7.3s and it seems to me there a little bit more reliable

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

also need advice on a tranny once i decide on a motor

dont get me wrong i love my 7.3, a 12 valve would just be more simple to put in there seems how there isn't much wiring

I like the 7.3 just fine but is no way more reliable than a 12v.

i've splurged for the 12v thanks for the advice guys. now how about a tranny?

superduty_5.9 01-02-2011 10:09 PM

47rh and no adapters.

cowboyjohnson 01-07-2011 08:07 PM

i'm not that familiar with that tranny but i know i would rather have a standard

superduty_5.9 01-07-2011 09:54 PM

Nv4500 is a 5-speed from a 3/4 to a 1 ton.

turbostang7 01-07-2011 10:50 PM

nv5600 and have a 6 speed!

cowboyjohnson 01-15-2011 08:08 PM

even better!

Yes, but parts are harder to find and they are more expensive then the NV4500.

It really depends on what you're going to be doing. If you plan on doing a lot of towing and have the money go with the NV5600. If not, then go with the NV4500.

Depends on what you want. The 12v is going to be much more simple to swap in (no electronics) and will also be easier and cheaper to get lots of power out of. A 7.3 would still be cool though :tu:

yeah it would go right on the 6bt, no more work involved than putting a 4500 on it. it is more spendy, so its up to your budget on that one
