Allright Doing a 94 Fummins 250 whats the skinny

Whats the best motor for power , I was thinking a 94 12 valve around 100k 1200 bucks in this neck of the woods. My 250 allready is an Hd with 350 springs, and a small block zf5, From What I understand i would need a ford sb flywheel housing plate, and dodge clutch components, I think I can drain my fuel system then de regualte to 10 psi...Thanks any input would be appreciated thanks

Not sure if you want to keep the small block ZF, probably won't find a clutch that will hold up. I would go 460 or 7.3 ZF, but I could be wrong. Should be some info on this subject somewhere in this forum. 94 12v is deff. a good choice, can make great power and gets good mileage. Should be able to retain your ford clutch comp. if your using a ford tranny. And I have heard of plenty of guys keeping the gasser fuel pumps and using a regulater to keep the pressure down. Good luck

Hey being your in Mass., do you have a plow on truck? A friend of mine has a 90 something F250 with the crap Dana 50 front TTB axle, 7.3 Powerstroke and a Boss V plow. Some years ago, he cracked the driver's side of the axle housing while plowing. They can be fixed by welding on a piece of flat stock but that front end is really a piece of S**T. It was never designed to hold that amount of weight. They always crack on the driver's side. He still uses the truck but it goes down the road with the tops of the tires in (excessive negative camber) with the plow on. If you plan on doing this swap and keeping the truck, you might want to swap in a Dana 60 before you do the Cummins. Just my .02 cents. I remember when my truck still had the 50 in, it always went through front u joints because of the plowing.

Or if you don't plow, maybe you don't need to worry about this. Just wanted to share info. Good luck with your project.

i wouldn't use the small block zf, that is what i put in and the clutch isn't big enough to hold the power and that is with a south bend ceramic clutch.
i plan on swapping to either a powerstroke zf or a NV 4500, just for the bigger clutch, although the closer ratio gears will be nice too

sounds like a great deal on that engine, if I was doing your swap i would find a dana 60 and throw the old 50 out. Only problem I'm running into now is fuel system otherwise buy motor mounts and the swap is pretty easy.

cummins swap

I have a 94 f 350 that used to be a 460 with a zf that i put a 92 cummins in. Made my own adapter plate and running the old zf. Got about 15000 miles on conversion. Trannys holding up great. Pulled fuel pump from tanks and runing cummins fuel pump. Wiring is very easy. All in all I thounght swap went pretty well.

Pretty good deal on the motor but I personally would try to find a 96-98(If I'm remembering right) 12V that was hooked to a manual tranny. They had the 215 hp pump on them. If you can, find a D60 front end to swap in. Get a 7.3 or 460 ZF, pretty sure the small block one would be eaten alive.

If you plan on buying motor mounts, from what I've read on here, most people like the ones from Autoworld rather than FordCummins.com's.

Auto World

Good luck and be sure to post lots a pics of your build. :tu::c:

Hey Chrism7508 how much did it cost you to install the motor? I'm buying 96 12v with tranny and just wondering how much I'm looking to spend to get it in and drivable... Thanks..
