10 speed??
just saw a video on youtube a guy stuck a fuller 10 speed in a 1ton behind a cummins???? i want to do it now! thought about it a long time ago and didnt figure it would work but i guess i was wrong.......now anyone got any ideas???? trust me im all ears!!!!!:pca1::pca1:

first things first your going to have to figure out the difference in bolt patterns ur cummins is and find a tranny that is close im sure you can get an adapter made to fit it. the next thing would be figuring out what clutch would work. that and ur going to need to know what size input shaft is on the transmission. then ur either going to have to get the yoke from the out put shaft change or get a new drive shaft made to fit the different sized u joint and not to mention an air system for the splitter

Then you'll also notice how frequently he shifts. A 10-speed is pointless.

That trans weighs more than a 6bt, unless he swapped bell housings I can't imagine it fitting well between the frame rails of a 1 ton.

here ya go this guy sells adapters

NEver said it couldn't be done but it's alot of work. That's a medium duty trans too, I've had a RTLO18718B 18 speed (basically same case as 9 speed with the back half different for splitter) on a 1 ton dualie bed and it was saggin. I was toying with the idea of putting a RTO1409A behind my cummins. The 6bt is used in spotter yard trucks that have air brakes so be easy to just mount an air compressor from one as long as front cover is same (which I think it is) then mount vacum pump with ps behind compressor for air. Then you're talking 1200-1400lbs of extra weight. But having a twin counter shaft non synchro trans and floating gears in a pick up would be the cats meow! The more I think about it the more I wanna do it as the eaton would take anything the 6bt could throw at it without breaking a sweat! And we do alot of hauling with it, up to 26k lbs where the dodge a518 has trouble.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Nice thing bout the 1409A is it's a double OD trans, last gear in trans is flipped around making it a tall last gear. It also is a U shift pattern not an H pattern. |

A Browny aux trans behind a 5spd will get you there as well, and will fit easyer. I did that to a F600 years back and made a POS into a hauling beast! It was way more fun shifting the twin sticks too!

The youtube video has an email address of the guys that did the conversion. I'm sure they can help with the parts needed.
I have thought about this swap to. Another thing no one has mentioned. The 10 speed can be shifted without the use of a clutch, with a little practice. Using the clutch for starts and stops only. That would cut the wear of that whole assembly dramatically. Also, the 10 speed has a short shift when empty. Start out in second gear. Then hit high range, and go to Lo gear. Then finish the shift pattern out. It works great for 10 wheel dump trucks. 1 ton pickup will never hurt that transmission short shifting. |
I know they put 6bt's in medium duty freightliners that use fuller transmissions. I think thats where I'd start.
