Can Someone tell me everything I need for 6bt swap.

I have a 1985 K5 Blazer with a 305 in it now. WEAK. So I was going to put a 4bt in it but then I was told i will need to do the same stuff as if I was putting a 6bt in it. So I am going to put a 1st gen or 2nd gen 6bt in it I think. If someone could tell me everything I will need to do this swap I would greatly appreciate it. This is going to be my first Motor swap so all the help I can get would be great! Thank you so much to whoever helps!

Cash and patience should cover it.

Seriously though, there is no way to say what you'll need. No two conversions are done the same, sometimes you're in there and see something you want to do differently. You also just run into parts that need replaced that you didn't think would need it until you dove in.

Get an engine and trans first, then we can give you some pointers on some of the bigger things that will come up, but in the end these conversions are for the guy that can figure the little things out himself.

Alot depends on what you want to buy, and what you want to make. There are a few companies that make mounts and other parts that can make this pretty close to a "bolt in" swap, or,,,, if you have the tools and a little know-how, you might want to fab up most of the parts yourself. Autoworldmt.com has Cummins repower mounts and parts you might check out. Nice folks, and very helpful.

Get your engine, tranny, and and idea of what you want to end up with and what you want to do with it,, (ie. daily driver, tow vehicle, etc.) I bought the engine, tranny, and parts for my swap piece by piece, but I would have saved a TON OF TIME AND MONEY, if I had bought a donor vehicle right from the start. Oh well,,,,,,,,,, next time.

Ya I am wanting a daily driver but Im going to have 39.5x14.50s on it. So its going to be going offroad some and I will be towing trailers an stuff but nothing over 9000lbs. I want to get a donor truck but There isnt really many places to find one down here. So i guess i have to try and find one on criagslist or autotrader?? Im not really sure. And if i put a 6bt in there wont i have to redo the front suspension. its got a 8in suspension lift right now.

youll need bigger axles for sure like a d60 up front and a corporate 14 bolt in the rear. youll probably need stiffer springs up front too.

get a donor vehicle as stated above, itll save you THOUSANDS. literally. and dont do what i did. dont buy a truck from a guy who says it runs and drives good just cant get it started because of the electrical. make sure you see it and hear it run and drve and make sure everything works and go from there. as for what youll need, 2 words covers it: DEEP POCKETS

I think a 4bt is a better idea for a blazer. With a 4bt you shouldnt have the front end and spring issues that you have with a 6 cylinder. It should also get better milage.

Ya I've had people telling me that but I've just been stuborn. Now I actually realize its a good idea... Haa. So I've been looking around an can't find any 4bt's anywhere besides stuff on ebay but not such a great idea. And if I get a 4bt I just need an Adapter plate for trans right?

Just keep reading threads on here about people doing conversions, it was a big help for me. Just did a 99 superduty 12v conversion and it took about 2 1/2 months but I didn't hammer on it every day. Once the motor is in it takes a lot of fabricating intercooler plumbing, intake routing, radiator hose routing, and exhaust work. Wiring is quite simple as it takes only one 12 ignition volt hot to run a VE pumped engine, like 4b or 93 older 6b, and a pretty simple voltage regulator setup. Good luck and do lots of research before starting
