This is the first time i have posted on here. I have a 86 Checy 3/4 ton 4x4 that i want a 12 valve in. I have done a little checking on and know it has been done is there any one out there that can tell me what i will need to do, maybe some pics of the prosses. and i have one more ? can i put a nv5600 behind a 12 valve or should i just go with a nv4500

Hey im doind the same thing i would go with a 4500 cause the final drive ratio of an nv5600 is the same as a 4500, and you can upgrade to a bigger input with a nv5600, i currently have a nv4500 with the bigger input im throwing behind mine, and i dry fit the np205 case behind it, its lookin good :tu:

im installing the 24v and nv4500 in my 86 chevy 4x4. i was told to use the np205 out of the older 89-93 dodge. is that what you have in the picture?

[QUOTEi would go with a 4500 cause the final drive ratio of an nv5600 is the same as a 4500QUOTE]

The final drive on the 5600 is 0.73:1 with the 4500 at 0.750:1.

I have a 1988 crew cab chevy 4x4 4.10 gears dana 60 front dana 70 rear (92) 5.9 cummins with 4 inch exhaust dodge bell housing, clutch, @ input shaft (kit 2 do this real simple ) mated to chevy nv4500 (to use chevy nv4500 must be 1997 0r newer) advanced adapter spacer between chevy nv4500 @ chevy 205 transfercase with gear vendor overdrive unit behind it. At 80 mph pushing 1600 rpm over 24 miles per gallon. Used to have 400th chevy tranny behind 5.9 after 3rd heavy tranny. decided to go nv4500 manual route best move i ever made (go heavy duty route spend money right first time give your truck room to grow) built 400 auto has trouble standing up to stock 5.9 cummins. after I installed nv4500 i advanced timing on injector pump, 3200 spring, rotated fuel pin, turned power screw in. WHOLE DIFFERENT TRUCK !!!! I got a lot of parts @ pointers from guys at ford cummins.com, and diesel bombers!!!

what is the diff of chevy nv4500 be for 97? :humm:

Goose54 01-15-2010 12:19 PM

the kit for the dodge input shaft won't fit in the pre 96 chevy nv4500. 97 and later bigger input shaft opening. pre 96 shift cover at top of tranny round in shape like dodge ( where shifter fits in transmission) 97 and later shift cover has square top.:argh:

I"ll try to get some pics together. Truck is my daily driver gets the same mileage as before even after tweeking the pump depending how you drive. ( it just more power whole different truck)

conversion wasn't bad just took alot of research to figure out the best setup. wish I would of went with nv4500 manual from the start. worst part of conversion was cutting the crossmember that goes underneith motor and making center of it drop 6in.(clearence for oil pan) other part was build my own motor mount brackets to properly place where i wanted it in the engine compartment. moved the tranny back about 3 in. and had to cut out shifter opening in floor for tranny @transfer case bigger. back of transfer case i added gear vendor od unit so driveshafts will need shortened @ front needed lengthed. Still a ongoing process it has 3in lift soon will be adding 6in lift because my 35in tires need more room.
