Converting C70 Chevy (366 gas) to 5.9L

Hi: Anyone have info on converting a C70 Chevy Truck over from Gas (366 gas eng.)to a 5.9L , I've got the 5.9 engine from damaged Fedex van, but would like to know if a bolt-up bellhousing exists, and if it's possible to bolt it right up to my existing 5/2spd.trans. I've got a good truck with worn-out 366. Thanks!

What trans did the Fed-Ex van have? A lot came with a TH-400 or some other type of GM transmission, so the old 5/2 may bolt right up to that big-block 366 gasser as all of the old Chevrolet V-8's, big-block and small-block shared a common bolt pattern for transmission bell housings. Heck, a buddy of mine has one of those 366's mated to a TH-400 and a NP-205 t-case (out of an 1980 3/4-ton) in his show truck sitting on 44's. Everything just bolted right together.

If for some reason you have an odd-ball bolt pattern, contact these guys: AdvanceAdapters.com | Engine & Transmission Conversion Adapters - Advance Adapters.
Power-train swaps are their specialty and they likely will be able to hook you up with whatever it takes to get your 5.9 and 5/2 playing nice together.

OH, and welcome to DieselBombers!:U:

ok here goes :D

the 366 is the standard chevy engine bellhousing pattern.so you may have one of 2 situations with your bellhousing in the truck. 1st one is that the bellhousing as on most of those engines was the standard chevy triangle shape and the bellhousing being removable. The other is some thing like I saw in my brothers snap on truck. he has a 427 in it with an allison trans. The allison has a sae 2 or 3 standard bell on itself with a oddball conversioin plate in between that changes from sae to triangle chevy style. Either one you will be able to make work with the cummins. The cummins has the removable rear plate so you can if wanting to drop some change get the adapter plate you need pretty easily.

:U: :ok1:
Good luck on her :D

Sean: Thank you very much, for the Info, I'm new to this,so do you have any idea,as to where I might buy an adaptor plate? The 5.9L is still bolted in to the fed-ex chassis hooked to an Allison 545 trans. I'm away from home@ present, but will sure give it a closer look when back there. I had asked all around & no one had any answers, I appreciate it very much, I plan on this being my fall/winter project. Thank you,Roger

Dieseldude: Thanks, for replying, the Fed-ex,has an Allison 545 bolted to the 5.9 , I was hoping to use the Eng.& Trans. together, but was told the rear-end ratio's probably wouldn't match-up. That's okay, I would be glad just to have the Cummins in my C70, everything on the Truck is good, except the worn-out engine. I appreciate all the info/help I can get. Thank you,Roger

I have been debating what engine to put in my 78 C-6500, I love my 366 bt 5mpg is rediculous, I have a 6 cyl Mitsu-Fuso diesel that I am thinking about putting in it if the trucking work keeps up

Keep me /us updated on here, when you decide & what you get into, just talked to a guy from Ca. today, & he thought mine wouldn't be as tough as I thought. he stated most 2.5 ton & up trks. are pretty much standard sizes, he described my setup in detail, on the ph., so he must know alot. Good Luck.

trans adapters

KK guys,
The three major producers ofthe chevy to cummins adapters are the old bread truck cummins plates (not sure ofthe part #), Ford cummins, and destroked. I am not sure how much the cummins ones cost but the fordcummins and destroked ones are around 1200-1500$. with flex plates or flywheels depending on trans type. Any other guys have an idea how much the cummins one runs?

Sean
