5.4 Triton 4BT Cummins swap?
I am looking to buy a 03 f150 with a 5.4 triton, but the engine is about shot, so i thought why not put a cummins in it. What will I have to do to make the tranny hook up? I am not sure what tranny it has in it, but i know its a manual. What other modifications will I have to do? I am hoping to do this as cheap as possible, b/c i am on a very tight budget, so I am not doing anthing that doesnt have to be done. How much will it cost?:argh:

Well, I hope. lol |
No kidding, do not expect to do this for really cheap, especially your first time. If you are on a very tight budget, a Cummins swap may not be for you. You can not just look at the cost of engine, trans or trans adapter etc. All the little things start to add up big time. Especially if you upgrade anything before you put it in.

Do you think i could do it all for under $5000?
|
I think you'd have to have some pretty good hook ups to get it done under 5k. those 4BT's are going for 2-5k depending what shape and what configuration. an adapter is usually close to $1k, plus a clutch/flywheel.
|
Then add at least 2K for unexpected items that you may need, 5K will NOT get you there and I would almost be willing to put money it, if I wasn't trying to be so cheap lately.

Don't do it unless you got deep pockets.
Start collecting parts or find a good running Ford step van with a 4BT. Even after you think you have all your parts keep another $2or$3K in your pocket for things you forgot. Trust me I know |
o.k. ill just put a cheap triton in it for now, then later a cummins.
