Back 2 The Future 5.9 Cummins

Hi all gathering info on a possible project. I am toying with the idea of putting my 1st gen 5.9 Cummins into my 2001 Dodge 2500 5.9 gasser 8800GVW . Need more power to pull my equipment around!!!!!

I know it's going backwards but I am trying to find any info or anyone that has completed this type of swap. There is a truck in one of the Diesel mags called Back To The Future. I am shooting for this type of swap, but am not shooting for 1500hp.

Before I get flamed......I am in no position to buy another truck(credit sucks and I am self employed)can't afford a $600 plus payment, got an $850.00 one on my B-cat.

I already have a complete first gen 2wd truck with 210K on motor. Might freshen it up and turn it up a lil....

Can I build up my 01 4x4 trans to hold up? WIll it bolt up to the first gen 5.9

Needs to keep the creature comforts like AC, etc...

Any advice tips etc greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The gas tranny won't bolt up. You need to find a 47rh from a 1994-early 1996 Dodge diesel truck. You might be able to use the 47re which was installed in 96.5 or so up to 2002.5. The gas tranny wouldn't like the diesel at all.

Once you find a tranny its easier to park em side by side and start switching things over you could always place the gas motor in the first gen to recoop a few bucks anyway most everything will bolt right in :pca1:

I'd like to put the gasser into my Toyota 4x4 and would sell the 1st gen shell for parts..

Why not sell bothe trucks and buy a 2nd gen cumimns? Your gonna take two trucks and be left with one truck. While it would be a cool/fun project it will in no way be cost effective. You should easily be able to sell both your trucks and get a 2nd gen 12v (or 24 maybe) with a manual to tow with.

check your local laws but its common for the engine to have to be the same year or newer than the vehicle itself due to emission standards even on diesels. usually its pretty easy expecialy if the truck is already registered and inspected to get the registration changed all that will need to be done is a form and verification by the emissions station.
