So many ideas, so little money.
I've had a lot of ideas of engine swaps but i dont know which one i should plan on doing. I'm 15yrs old and aint got alot of money but i wanna do something. I own a 1968 chevy 2ton flatbed truck with a 327 gasser. I was thinking of dropping in a CAT or a screaming Detroit back by a 10spd(autos aint worth crap). I've also thought about buying a 1973-1987 chevy 4x4 pickup and dropping in a 4bt cummins or a 4cyl detroit. Im asking y'all which idea would be the best or is there something else that would be better?:argh: I sorta wanna stick to chevys since you cant kill them. Any input is great. thanks

i would look up a 70's all the way up to whatever year chevy stopped using straight axles. 3/4 ton and put in a 12valve, u cant go wrong there:U:

How about a 4-71T or 6V53T in the 2 Ton? Also consider re-gearing the rear, or swapping that out too.

I would think a 4 BT in an older chevy would be a fun and easy budget build. You can get the adapter for a b series to give it a small block pattern, so bolting up to a manual transmission would be real easy. The 4 cylinder is short enough you shouldn't have any problems with fan clearance, and could probably use the stock radiator. The more I think about it, this would be a real easy swap, and you wouldn't have much into it or have to fab very much other than mounts which are easy enough.
Go for it, when I was fifteen I took my 81 f-100 2x4 and put it on an 84 250 4x4 frame that I also did a solid axle conversion on. You can do quite a bit for no money if you scour the junk yards and are willing to learn how to weld, mechanic, and what not. |
any of the engines would be a fun little project, but the 10spd would just be a total waste of time and money, all that gets you is 5 useless gears down low (which will eat up any rear end you put behind it unless your using rockwells!) and 5 up top that are the same as a 5spd...
I think if i had the opertunity for an engine swap project, i would have to go with a screamin jimmy! |
A detroit or a cummins in a rat rod would be badass
|
I started mine when i was 15. Now I'm 18 and i've driven it. :yeah:
It costs a lot more than you think no matter what you do, but that detroit in the 2 ton would be sweet. |
