Kubota Ranger swap

I now have 107000 miles on this conversion and have no problems that weren't mentioned in previous posts. I did turn the fuel up 1/2 turn and shimmed out the waste gate a little more so I now have 10# boost according to the present gauge. This one doesn't read as high as the first one. In my experience gauges are an estimate at best. I'm quite sure I could get 15# if I eliminated the waste gate and turned up the fuel some more but I am not looking for trouble and it goes just fine as is. Overall it has averaged 29.5 mpg since I got it running and is has not been under good conditions for good mileage. The guy I worked with :c: had a chevy gas burner averaged 11 o n the same route, don't see how he could burn that much but glad it was him and not me. I am finally retired from the oil patch for good so don't really need this rig that bad now. I just got a new F150 short box 4X4 V8 for my running around and am giving the Ranger to my son in law in Iowa to use on the farm as a parts chaser etc. Should work good for him, save wear and tear on my daughters old Escort anyway. I have been following closely the progress of all you other Kubota swappers, look like DI is the way to go. Sounds like a lot better fuel mileage and power but mine has served well, I've never done anything to the pump other than turn it up and it will turn 3000 and will go 80 on the level if you want to. This getting to be a pretty long post so better shut it down. Appreciate your interest. Proud to be the first Kubota swapper. Jakebilt

Hi Jake, Hate to hear the original Kubota swap thread has reached its fruition! I have truly enjoyed the progress and updates on your post. It's like a friend I never met is moving away for good. Anyway, thanks for sharing it's been a great thread!!! :hellox:

Update

Well I'm no jakebuilt. But the ranger just rolled over 200,000 the motor is still strong. And I use it as a daily commuter, and get 32 mpg average every tank. All I have really done is replace the clutch, added a in line electric fuel pump, and a new vacuum pump for the power assist breaks. We did put a new head on the engine and replaced the aluminum bracket for the alternator/power steering pump to a steel bracket.

Heay! Great to hear an update, I've wondered if it was still kicking. Sounds like it was well worth the money and effort to build it. :jump:

guesstimate cost of swap??

Hello I'm Klutz... I have a 01 ranger 2wd reg cab stepside and a 00 ext cab fleetside. I do a lot of towing and don't want to give up the narrow width and maneuverability of the ranger. Trying to base a total cost of diesel swap against just getting bigger gas engine

I apologize in advance for dragging back an old thread. I think I just bought Jakebuilt's '03 V2003 powered Ranger. It died on his son-in-law and he didn't want to dig into it any further. I'll be reading this entire thread and contacting Jakebuilt in the near future. Looking forward to some fun fixing it up.

That truck is a kind of legend. I would have loved to acquired it.

Good luck on a quick rebuild
