Jeep 2.8L Diesel Conversion Kit
I've been reading in a few magazines now that Jeep Performance Division is looking into the idea of creating and selling a kit to convert your Jeep to a diesel using the engine from the Liberty CRD. It's supposedly going to be offered in varying stages of completeness and top out at around $12K...
Anyone know anymore about this being a reality?
I think this would make a lot of Wrangler and Cherokee owners VERY happy.

I was just reading an article in my 4wor mag while on the throne, and I saw this very thing.. after a lil research, seems as though its a 10-12k full "plug & play" swap.
Further googling shows the engine was originally sourced from the military TJL. This is a simple version of the Liberty CRD diesel without the EGR, AC, and Viscous heater. The engine is electronically injected however using a bosch CRD, CP3 pump, system.
Looks like BD Power, Quadzilla, Edge TS and a few others all have performance modules for this engine putting out from 20hp up..
Like Johnny said, with this package being so light.. seems like it would be a great mileage getter or a nice swap for that rock crawler looking for a lightweight torque monster to put in front of dual cases and some Dana 60's.
It will definately be something to keep our eyes on for that next diesel conversion..
