06 F150 Diesel Swap - Any Suggestions?

Hello,
So I am looking to do a swap on my 06 F150 XLT. I know I'm probably crazy to consider it,but I have already put a ton of money into this truck and I like this truck, so I don't want to get rid of it. I also get an abysmal 10mpg on average, so money savings would also be awesome. I constantly have tools and stuff in my truck, and regularly I haul material for work, and while the 5.4 sounds great and I have had no major issues with it, it doesn't have guts, and my 4r75 shifts horribly. I am also probably due for a new rear differential/axle since it's whining pretty bad right now.

So does anyone have any suggestions for engines, besides the 4bt? The 4bt would probably be fine, but I'm looking for something with a bit more torque. Also, I would like to do something a little more unique. So far I have narrowed down a few possible conversions that could work, the Cummins ISB4.5 CR (Or QSB4.5? But what are the differences between this and the ISB?), a 4.5 Powerstroke (Pretty hard to find, and share many of the same issues with the 6.0 Powerstroke), or some type of Cat Diesel, like a 3004 or something like that (Can't really find any information on it). The ISB is what I would like to get, but they are pretty hard to find. From what I understand, they were used in generators and maybe small equipment. However, would it be possible to use a QSB with a rear gear train? Or what would be required to use a QSB instead? And then would I just be able to use a 6.7 adapter plate for a ZF6 for either a ISB or QSB?

The other question I have is with legality. Does anyone know what the rules are in western NY? I can't seem to find much information on it. Also, how do you guys get your swaps to pass OBD II inspection tests?

I know I'm probably the 50 millionth person to ask this, but any help would be awesome.
