OM617 front crank seal leaking
 
hey guys,

I have a freshly rebuilt OM617, and for some reason I have a front crank seal leaking
has anyone experienced this issue?
I have had similar issue before my rebuild but figured the issue woulg go away whith the rebuild.
new seal and new spacer installed.

any help is appreciated

Not good. A ton of work to change then leak again. I wish I had an answer for you.

Is it a new or reman crank? Or the original? I think the replacement seals are supposed to be offset in the manufacturing process to allow for groove wear, maybe the seal had already been replaced once, before you got it, and has two grooves worn into it? Just a thought. I thought real hard on replacing mine while its out, but the old one doesn't leak, so I decided to let sleeping dogs.....LOL!

You could mic it while you got it apart again to see if does have more than one groove. That sux having to take it apart again!
