Ford vs Ram body and frame quality which one for a conversion?
 

This is not a bash one manufacturer or the other.
I need a couple of new trucks to replace my ageing 1988 Fummins and my totaled 1995 Cummins powered Ram
I just can't really decide between Ford and Ram.

I'll be using the 12 valve with the 47rh 4x4 in one truck and the 12 valve with a zf6 4x4 in the other.

The Ford years I am looking at would be 2005-2006 model years for the coil sprung front end because it rides lower than the leaf sprung model.
I like the Ford in general for the lower side view mirrors and the ease of the door handles.
The above reasons are for my wife.
Also, aren't the Ford bodies built tougher than the Dodge?

I like the Ram more than the Ford for the body styling and fully boxed frame.
Model years would be 2003-2006.

Anyone have an opinion about the features of either brand?

if its ram vs f series i go ram every time. ford does a shitty job with electronics and build quality. to many gadgets without enough substance. All that aside you should probably be getting a chevy if you want frame strength ;) I work on cars for a living, every time i get in a ford and drive you can see the body moving seperate of the cab and they do dumb stuff like vacuum locking hubs.


before you say "those are new trucks" its always been that way. Ram isnt in these cause it is not as drastic of a difference.

I was aware of the frame twist videos that were performed by an independent tester which showed the Dodge having the stiffer frame. Good vid :tu:

Chevy is not in the equation though. I don't really care for the body and their quality is suspect; especially after becoming Government Motors. '

good old gov't motors nonesense :argh: they didnt get govt money, they got a gov't insured loan... ALL business's get loans its part of life. Quality is not "suspect" they are still some of the best damn vehicles on the road. You can also view tests as being bias'd for showing competitors weakness's if you'd like, but i included videos from chevy AND ford ;). All three are solid options, just gotta decide what features/strengths you are into.

No question... would definitely pick a Superduty over a 2ndgen Dodge for longevity and durability.

That frame twist business is crap. Yes, a boxed frame is more rigid, and they can do it with thinner metal... that rusts through faster. :argh:

Yes, I'm going to use my two 12 valves and transmissions for the new trucks.

I'm only using the 2nd gen Dodge drivetrain, not the bodies.
