Kubota running WMO

Planning out my fuel system to run WMO.

Has anybody ran the kubotas on WMO? IDI or DI?

here are a couple things

My truck has a 10 gallon tank under the bed.
I recently acquired a 30 in bed tank.

Where I live it gets below freezing maybe twice a year.

I am going to run a two tank system. planning on starting and stopping on D2 and freeway commute on WMO
D2 in the stock tank
WMO in the 30 gallon bed tank.

How to valve the two tanks?

1.Running a valve with feed and returns to both tanks.

2.Running the stock carrier OIL filter head with return built in, and just a standard elecrtric valve with no returns back to the tanks.

I like #2 the most but not sure if it will work. I would run the filter head after the lift pump but before the IP and also planning on a Filter heater.

I would run the valve in the engine bay to shorten the amount of fuel left when switched over.

I hope this makes Sense.

Next question:

How do you think these little motors will do on WMO. My current motor is an IDI. I want to change to a DI for power and effeciency but would like to run whichever would do better with WMO.

This is will be my commuter. I am not worried about power from the IDI vs DI more is better of course but my stock motor only made 97 ft lbs of torque,

Here is a very primitive drawing of the planned fuel system black is feed and blue is return

Will this work with no returns to the tank. It will keep my WMO and D2 seperate with the least amount of fuel lines to hold fuel when i switch the valves.

#2 looks good but how big is your filter canister. it looks like you will have to purge all the WMO out of your filter canister before you shut down on diesel? My stock Carrier filter holds about a quart. So about 10 miles or 10 minutes at 60 MPH to purge before shutdown? or quite a long time at 30 mph
also, it may take longer because you are not simply running all the WMO out of the filter, you are going to slowly dilute the WMO with diesel when you switch tanks. I don't know how to figure the time out on that.
I am running the Carrier filter with the built in return, so far no problems.
it would be a big PIA, but 2 Carrier filters with returns and a double sided valve might be faster to shutdown.
I messed around with a MB and WVO, good results but a total PIA to filter and pre treat WVO. I have no experience with WMO, how hot does the WMO have to be to run well thru the IP?
What is the BTU difference from WMO to diesel fuel. I ran some pretty good clean peanut oil in the MB, and it ran very well, corn oil not so good

have fun with it

Truthfully not to concerned to dilute wmo with D2 on shut down. I have heard it is harder to start when under freezing because it is thicker. It doesn't really freeze here in sunny California.... Actually it barely rains anymore...3 times this whole winter. So I may not worry to much about diluting and would run the last 3-4 miles on Diluted wmo.

Thank you for the input. It is always appreciated.

The IDI will probably do better on WMO than the DI, but I wouldn't bother, mine gets such great mpg it wouldn't be worth the trouble and risk of coking. BTY these motors ,at least the DI, put out way more hp and tq than is listed on the Carrier spec. They are only rated with the fuel rack limited 50 o/o. Mine is tuned to @ 120 hp and 330 tq.

The wmo in the Kubota is just a bonus. I essentially have everything to make it happen now. I have barrel filters built my own centrifuge. Just have to spend a little to plumb it all up. An essentially unlimited source of used oil and hydraulic fluid. And to top it off 2 other trucks that want to run it. Once the wmo is tested.

Also planning on a family rig soon. Probably a 96 suburban diesel with a 6.5. May looks to swap a 've pumped 6bt in it in the future.

I will stick with the IDI for a while. I know the carrier specs are low. But should easily suffice in my truck. If I want more I will find a DI and spend a weekend swapping.
