chevy one ton question
Ive got a guy who wants me to do a 5.9 in a mid 80s 1 ton chevy, i need to know what the difference is clearance wise in the engine crossmember from the 4x4 to the 2wd, the truck im considering doing is 2wd, Ive heard the chevys are difficult, but mostly i hear about the 4x4, and info on 2wd would be great.

The 2wd crossmember is much larger, and there is the steering center link. I have a C30 complete frame and K5 frame cut out back. Want measurements? pics?
I know of a local chevy C30 with a cummins/727 in it... basically a shade-tree swap without any butchering. My buddy is putting a cummins/nv4500 in his '73 C10 and he says its pretty tight... might have to trim some firewall. |
2wd is a piece of cake. use the mounts from a 89-93 and pull the Chevy frame mounts off and it will drop right in. use the inter-cooler from a 93 along with the ac condenser and radiator and you can run the stock fan and shroud with it,

I took a pic of the c30 frame with the k5 chunk laying on top. |
so is the issue that the engine has to be set back too far? has anyone cut the oil pan down?

If it is the 73-87 style it is a lot harder than the 88 up round nose trucks such as mine is.
