87 chevy cummins trans question

I am building a 87 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 12v I am wondering if a nv 5600 trans will fir in my trans tunnel without a body lift? The truck will be regularly driven and pull it's fair share of trailers..or would I be better off with the nv4500 5 speed???

You'd think the 4500 and 5600 need about the same clearance since either one came in the 00-02 Dodge trucks.

I have been told that some have had to modify the tunnel and some have not..I would like to go with the 5600 but have herd horror stories about how they are hard shifting or hard to get in gear and so on but I am starting fresh as of know I just have a good engine....

I wouldn't shy away from a body lift (within reason). The little bit of extra clearance you get can be a big plus on a conversion. Frame brackets can be moved. Also, there's aluminum spacers. One Inch 1-inch Body Lift Aluminum Pucks from ORD Fullsize 4x4 Parts

I prefer a 6spd of any flavour, but I tend to go with what I can find easiest/cheapest. If I hadn't picked up a nv4500 (w/ all trimmings) as cheap as I did, I'd be looking at adapting a spare Ford ZF5 I have kicking around.
