Chevy 2500 soon2b Cummins
 
I've been reading posts on this site for what seems like forever. LOTS of good information here! So, I finally bellied up to the table and became a member. Thanks all for all the great info!

Got a 1996 K2500 with a junk 6.2 (no compression) that some jackleg thought would be better than the 6.5 it came with. Found a 5.9 cummins p-pump out of a school bus. Question: the cummins is intercooled. I know that it's gonna be super tight anyway in my chevy and LIKELY not gonna be able to use the engine fan. That said, anybody figured out how to intercool one of these things under a chevy hood?

I have heard of some people using a Duramax or a Ford (I think 7.3, all aluminum including the tanks on the side) intercooler and doing some trimming of the front of the core support and the hood latch bracket. Keep us informed of what you end up doing.

I have 2 of them a 88 3500 dually and a 95 3500 dually 4x4, both have 12 valve with intercooolers and the stock fan plenty of room and no firewall mods. On both i used the stock dodge radiator and intercooler much easier then using the chevy crap. on the 88 i used the stock dodge mounts from a 93 and worked great, on the 95 the guy i got it from had bought the aftermarket mounts which work well but are kinda costly.

Ima measure up the radiator on the bus. It's a Ford... Any chance it'll squeeze in? Probably wishful thinking, but we'll soon see. Thanks for the help! Dezeldoc, did you build your own mounts or buy one of the kits out there? Looks like most of the kits waste some valuable space between the back of the motor and the firewall...:tu:

on the 88 i just used the stock dodge mounts from the 93 and it worked great, on the 95 the guy had bought a set of aftermarket ones and yes it did leave a lot of room between the firewall and motor so i reset them to my liking.

Another question... did you use the chevy filter/lift pump? or bypass? Trying to get all the planning down on paper before I tackle this project. I been on the farm for 20 years... done plenty of duct tape and wire engineering. Took apart stuff that I wasn't qualified to do and got it back together... but I never had a motor out. Totally new territory. I'm pretty excited about this... fun to have a project that doesn't have to be in the field an hour ago!
