Kubota V2203 Differential Gear Choice? 2.73 or 3.08?

Kubota V2203 Differential Gear Choice?

I plan to be putting some Differential Gears into my Ford Ranger 8.8 this week. Crossing Fingers. But I have a choice between 2.73 and 3.08.

The running gear will consist of the Kubota V2203 DI and Inter Cooled Turbo with a M50D 5 speed that has a .79 fifth gear ratio and the tire I will run will be between 25.5 and 29.0"

At this time I am heavily leaning towards the 3.08. I have thought about the 2.73 but I am not sure if the Kubota will have enough Torque to pull such a high gear?

I forgot the weight of the Truck in Factory trim is right at 2750LBS.

Additional Information on the Torque aspect and Gear Ratio would be Greatly Appreciated.

Thank You.

On a Further note with this Chilly Cold Front I thought for sure the Forum would be more active. You know people staying out of the cold. :s:

I run a 3.08 with a .83 overdrive, & 30" tires. I would not run anything taller, I'm happy with the 3.08:tu:

So you can pull 30" Tires with a 3.08 with authority?

If so then a 2.73 should do well with a 26" Tire I would think?

You see on my little Mazda B2200 I can not really go over a 29 inch tire without doing a body lift. This is why I am looking for opinions with people that have a good running Kubota. :)

Thank You UsedKubotaman I hope others will chime in as well.

After using a Speed to Gear Calculator the 2.73 Differential gear and the .79 5th Gear with a stock 26" Tire at 2100 RPM comes to 75.31 MPH.

So it looks as though Used Kubotaman you answered my question as the 2.73 gear and my .79 overdrive is just a little slower than what you are running.

But I still hope others might chime in on how they feel there Kubota Turbo Engine pulls. I know or I think I know that the little Kubota with a Turbo has allot more TQ than the engine that they are replacing?

Well I just pulled a 7-8% grade for 3mi in 5th, started at the bottom of the hill at 1900 rpm, laied into the fuel and pulled the hill gaining speed, topped it @ 2200 rpm and I have my fuel turned down. So I don't belive you will have any trouble with a lighter rig than mine. I weigh 3700 lbs with me and 3/4 tank of fuel.
