I've only got a few videos of the first start ups but should have some more soon. As of now we're just waiting on my tranny guy to come out and take a look at the transmission because we're having a problem with it (won't shift out of 1st gear). As for the suspension, it seems to be handling the weight very well with a very minor rake that will even out while towing (I'll try to snap some pics of it on level ground). As for whether or not it can handle it we have high hopes but will address any problem as it comes.

As of a few minutes ago we officially (kind of) got the truck in street running condition. :jump::yeah:!! After countless hours going over the harnesses we finally figured out why the transmission wasn't shifting, which it turns out we missed a few wires (for some reason the transmission control relay is activated by the automatic shut down relay on the engine, which was broken on ours)....:argh: ! Although not shifting 100% the way it should be (only shifts manually using the column shifter) it will do for now (we plan on taking it to a transmission shop so they can get it working properly).

There are still a few other things that need to be done to make the build complete like hooking up the tachometer, speed gauge, other gauges (EGT, boost, fuel pressure), stock transmission temp. gauge, wire in the exhaust break, and clean up the wiring (aka loom it) but for now I am more than happy.

Tomorrow we hook it up to the 39 ft flat deck to see how she does. Videos are coming soon.

Very sweet build. I love chevy cummins builds. I wonder if the ride was compromised with the extra engine weight.

If by "ride" you mean comfort, I don't think so, everything is smooth and it handles quite well, especially while towing. The truck has a little bit of a sag in the front end and the wheels do rub the fender wells when turning at full lock (we do have larger tires). We do plan on eventually putting a slight lift kit on it to solve that problem.

Any updates? I may be looking at doing this with an 2001 suburban 2500 with a 8.1 in the future

Bigg Redd 12-26-2013 06:36 PM

Damn, 8.1 is a hell of alot of engine................

i would just put a "leveling kit" in it. all it is different keys for the torsion bars. worked well in my chevy but there was no cummins under the hood. :choochoo:
