OM617 to wrangler questions

Hey guys,

So ive read through a ton of threads on this swap but have a couple questions. I'm getting ready to do this in the next week or two, already have the car and the adapter kit. Going into a 93 yj that previously had the 4.0.

1.) What do you do about power steering lines? i would assume the benz is metric and the jeep is standard

2.) Anyone have any clever ideas for mounting boost, EGT, EMP gauges and making it look good?

im sure ill have more as it gets closer

I use the MB high pressure tube and braze on new end. i can post pics of my boost gauge setup also.

good idea! that would be great, thanks! do you just have a boost gauge? what about a pyrometer or exhaust manifold pressure? i want them when i start turning up the boost

also, what do you guys do about the crazy throtle linkage with the om617? from what ive seen it looks like the throttle cable from the jeep just goes to the benz linkage with all the vac stuff removed. is that the jeep throttle cable?

anyone got anything?

The Jeep power steering lines should actually be metric! 16mm or 18mm, I can't remember which is pump end, and which is steering box end... Saginaw switched the pumps to metric o-ring fittings sometime around '79.

I was able to use the stock lines with mine when I first swapped, but my diesel isn't a MB. An option if the stock lines don't work for you, would be to do what I had to do when I swapped to a hydroboost brake setup. I went to the local NAPA autoparts store, and they made the correct length hoses for me with compression fittings to fit the hard line sizes for the original hoses. That way, I just cut the hard lines and fittings off of the ends of the hoses that worked, and made one hose with both correct ends! :rocking:

Thanks! Yeah napa is good at doing custom lines but if I can use stock I'll be even happier!
