1999 v10 with zf5 5 speed to cummins 12v

I have a 1999 F 250 that I would like to put a cummins in. everybody says it can't be known the V 10 transmission. so I was wondering if I could put a bell housing off the zf6 or of an older cf5 that way I can still use my tranny I do not want to buy a new transmission. I see there are kits all over the place to do this walk on the zF 6 out of the powerstroke but none for the zf 5. thanks

Destroked.com and Fordcummins.com have everything you need man.

The gasoline manual transmissions will not work on the Cummins. Fordcummins said it worked but when they tried it, it did not. Either too small of a clutch in it.

Best get one off a PowerStroke...not sure if the one off a 6.4L would work. I do know however the auto transmissions do work.

Why hunt down a different trans that still needs an adapter?

Get a donor truck with the cummins, NV4500 & tcase. One stop shopping. No custom adapters. Extra goodies. Deals are out there... you just have to find them.:c:

I tried the same thing, you can't get a clutch heavy enough. Also, you can't get a flywheel that has the correct tooth/pitch count to mate with a starter big enough to spin the Cummins. I went with a nv4500 and changed the input gear in my tcase to a 29 spline and it bolts right up. Also, I used a jeep 4.0 (1995) slave and works like a charm

On a side note, the zf tranny has a one piece case so you can't change the belhousing. One option I looked into was a 4bt flywheel, which is close to the size of the v10. The big issue with that is finding a clutch to hold up, and I had a Hell of a time finding a flywheel

I've got a 4bt flywheel on mine with a ceramic clutch and have had zero issues so far. I'm not putting out 500 horse or nothing but it is turned up.

your best bet is a nv4500 save the money you would spend on the adapter plates and go factory more options better clutch options and if it is a 4x4 just do this and the nv4500 is bullet proof
NV4500 Transmission 5th Gear Repair

then use the ford transfer case and and you are set

86Fummins, that's what I was about to do but I found a good deal on a nv, and my zf had 220k and needed a rebuild
