96 chummins 2wd

Truck 96 Chevy 2wd 3500 srw nv4500 5 speed p.0.s 6.5 td I'm in process of doing a cummins conversion. I ve been looking at other conversions and I can't seen to find some one who has done this same set up. I have the Chevy trans with dodge input shaft and bell housing I have a 93 cummins with the getrag clutch and a special ordered getrag to nv4500 bell housing. I already slid my tranny crossmember back to the last preecisting bolt holes . I'm trying to not shorten any driveshafts . My problem is my dodge motor mout brackets are about 3 inches in front of my Chevy motor mounts. I think I could mate the tranny to the motor and slide it all into place bug them I would have to make a drive shaft and I think I would have a problem with shifter room threw the floorboard looking for some info any is greatly appreciated thanks :tu:

Could you fab something that would move the motor mounts back some? I'm no expert on Cummins conversions, but I'm sure someone on here will have an idea. Bump for you. :tu:

I was pondering that .. I figured I could do some research and get some ideas from someone who has done a similar swap but I can't seem to find anyone who has done a 2wd conversion with existing nv4500

I have the motor and tranny in there have get a drive shaft cut wiring all hooked up gauges working waiting for custom radiator tomorrow to run it longer then a few seconds Can't post pics but I have a lot some pipe Reducers for the gauges. Cut Chevy motor mounts off use first gen cummins pads and intercooler and fan clutch with no body life a lot of fab work

Sounds pretty sweet! :tu:

My fan isn't centered of the raduatir tho because my motor is not below my front crossmember so I think I might have a problem running the stock mechanical fan . Has anyone ran electric fans?

daveO 12-10-2012 11:58 AM

Yeah, it's pretty common. You can use the electric fans from early 90's Ford Taurus. Here is a good write up.

I like that set up j think I'm running a different radiator I'm using all first gen parts plus I'll do some towing from time to time and I like the idea of the clutch fan . I think what I'll have to do is use a 94 rad and I/c but also fab my motor mounts (again) to let it sit lower in the bay

If I had a body lift my set up would work since I am going to have to make a drive shaft for sure ill just go ahead and move the miter back and down some more and I will be good on room just need a 3 in shorter driveshaft.. I basically just threw it in there matked it check for slight Clarence and bolted it in turns out its not enough clearance lol I'll make some more measurments and take it out again I guess lol

Motor is now in there and complete all but the exhaust I moved everything 3.5 in towards the rear used the 93 cummins rad sits where chevy rad sat and 93 cummins intercooler sits where ac sat I made altinator brackets fairly easy with out ac I think the bigger pulley would throw the tac off tho pipe plug adapters for oil and water temp stock fan clutch front frive shaft shortened 3.5 inches it's basically all bolt on no custom parts it's 93 dodge diesel parts or 96 Chevy parts bolted together and complete

That's awesome! Any pics?
