Speedometer help with np241!!?

just finished swapping a 93 cummins intercooled 5.9 into my 1991 f250 (did a sort of build thread in the show and tell section) i didnt know there was a swap section until now :booo: but anyways like i said the truck drives great i ended up using a dodge np241 ldl and put in a 29 spline input shaft to make it work behind the getrag trans. What my issue is, is that the np241 uses vss or electronic speedo while my truck uses a mechanical cable. The best option i could come up with was to use somthing like thishttp://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR4-SPEEDO-01T/1/Speedometer-Gauge-120mph-programmable--(w--turn-signal-and-high-beam) and making a custom dash and fitting it where the stock cluster goes. If anyone has some opinions or ideas that would be great! also im not sure if that aftermarket speedo will even work so lmk what you guys think!!

so i guess i will respond because quite a few people have read this. I just found my answer and ordered it!! The company speedhut now makes a speedometer that works off of a GPS. SO it uses satelites to figure out speed not a speed sensor. I think this is great because its only 50 more than the other speedo i was looking at and no matter what gears and tires i decide to run my speed will always be accurate! :jump:

I recently gathered up the parts to put a 241 pass side drop case with a mechanical speedometer behind an 06 allison 6 speed thats going behind my 94 5.9. I started out with a 241 out of a 90 suburban. Went to my friends trans warehouse and he was able to find all the pieces. I believe we used a 29 spline from the getrag for the input, and he happen to have a 241 core with a speedo rear housing on it. As I remember, the output shaft was a little different between the vss and the mech speedo, the difference being the length of the splines where the tone ring or the speedo drive gear goes on. The plastic gear has extra length past the gear on either end so I trimmed both ends shorter by running it through the table saw, (watch your fingers). If you need any part numbers or casting numbers let me know. He is going to help me put it together in a week or so.

that sure sounds like a puzzle lol! That sounds like a sweet build though. Anyways i started to take apart my dash because my guages finally shipped and should be here this coming friday. I took all of the old instuments out. I figured out which wires were for the blinkers. Since those are the only wires that are still useful i kept them longer and cut the rest of the harness off. Ill start to fab an aluminum backing plate either tomorrow or tuesday.
