benz

It doesn't have to be a cummins, a OM617 can be found by the hundreds on ebay, and can be tricked out to make decent HP. Or a OM603,or 606, has more HP stock, and they all weigh a couple hundred lbs less then the 4bt, plus there not as tall

I know you werent, ive just heard alot of people on different forums, who talk endless trash about putting a 6bt in a half ton, so i was just preparing him for that, now i will say with an aftermarket lift and bigger tires, on a truck to run in the mud, all bets are off, my truck is stock suspension with a 3 inch body lift, but my plan to lift it if i ever do is solid axle with leaves up front, even if i keep it 2wd, just because i like how it looks, and of course i wouldnt trust the drop down brackets with the extra weight. what i wanted to do was build a non driven axle out of thick wall dom tube and weld the ends off of a mid 80s dodge dana 44 to it
so i could stick with the same lug pattern,

to the original poster, if you are broke, you may want to wait on putting a diesel in, when i did mine i waited until i had researched every thing down to where i knew every part i needed and i built what ever i couldnt get from free material, and i was able to literaly do the entire conversion by myself, from start to finish.
