06 Tundra Crew Cab Cummins 4wd
I am planning on putting a cummins into a crew cab tundra... the 04-06 body style is my favorite... Originally I wanted to put a 6bt in this truck but it seems I will be able to get much better mpg with the 4bt and will still be able to produce good power... my goal was around 275-300 hp.. and around 500ft. lbs of torque.. another goal was 20+ on mpg...
This truck will be 4wd but will be probably %70 road and %30 offroad... I have been researching and reading tons on conversions but haven't found any that have successfully completed one on a tundra.... but anyhow... here are my plans: 04-06 Tundra Crew Cab 4bt ve pump ARP head studs 60lb valve springs 3200 gov spring (not sure) smoke screw adjust main power screw adjust new fuel pin hy35 over hx52 twins intercooler port and polished head 5x12 injectors (not sure) modified intake plentum Dana 60 front Dana 70 rear (not sure of the gearing) doubler transfer case NP241/NP241 4L80E, 47rh, or Allison 1000 tranny 3 link with panhard front 4 link triangulated or leaf rear(not sure) cable or air lockers (not sure) 35-38" tires (probably a aggressive AT or a durable MT) This is what I have came up with so far... I have been emailing back and forth with Monster transmissions for their advice on the tranny.. will probably let them build that but I will complete the rest myself... All those mods will be completed if I get the 4bt... IF I put the 6bt, I will probably not do nearly as much to it.... anyhow... this is the route I am thinking of taking.. please let me know what you think and any advise you might have... Thanks!!! |
I would look for a CR 4bt myself. The old ones are just too loud. Either way this is going to be a killer swap!
Keep us updated. |
One of my vendors has 5 4bt's in Houston for me to come and look at... they are all Marine 4bt's.. 2 are cummins recons with stanadyne injections pumps (I have limited experience with these).. two of the others are piston pumps and one is ve pumped... these three are sitting as rebuildable cores... I have done some shopping online as well and have found two within an hour or two from the house for under 1k that are rebuildable.. one in southwest mississippi and the other in Baton Rouge... I'm not going to be to awful picky with the engine because I am going to tear it down completely rather its running or not.. that way I know what I'm dealing with.. I will go with a big dampner and marine fused rubber mounts to try and reduce some of the vibration at idle.. most of these engines are noisy so with that, I'm going to insulate the heck out of the cab...got many things on the to do list...but as of now i'm just shopping... Thanks for the tip!! What do you think about the tranny out of what I have listed?

Sounds fun! There was a really sweet titan with a 6bt in it floating around at one point... big rock crawler.
Can't wait to see how this turns out. I agree the 4bt seems like a better fit for your power and mileage goals. |
Roger Roger.... I saw some pictures of a Titan with the 6bt... was a really clean build... this is going to be fun... just the research by itself has been fun... I'm going to try and get the truck and engine in the next couple of weeks... I'll build the 4BT complete prior to pulling everything out of the tundra...gonna take a bunch of pics as I go
