auto to manuel cummins

I am doing a 5.9 with 5 speed in my 97 f350 7.3 auto. I bought a cummins 1989 with 80k miles for 1500$. I took off the torque converter cuz im doing a 5 speed, I was wondering are the end of the crank shafts the same auto and Manuel on cummins, I don't see where the pilot bushing could go in the crank?

cumminsf150 08-25-2012 11:17 PM

The crank shaft is the same. Pilot bearing goes in the flywheel. Manuel is my cousins name, your transmission is manual.

Haha blame it on my smart phone, its slower then a streak of sh*t, but for the top end, I took off head and the head gasket was smoked, do I need to be worried about getting the head shaved since ir isn't aluminum

cumminsf150 08-27-2012 12:09 AM

Put a strait edge on it if you have the head off find out now

Put some 60lb valve springs in her too ( at least on the exhaust side) in case you ever put an exhaust brake on. They're cheap, $55

codycatract 08-27-2012 02:11 PM

I would probably be better off buying all them since im running 3200 spring don't ya think

An if I have higher rpm and stronger valve springs shoildbi do arp. Push rods?

hey im doin a swap just like urs except my 12v is a '94. good luck with urs hope to see some pics!

codycatract 08-30-2012 02:12 PM

Im not to go without the computer, don't know how to do pictures and stuff but if I can find someone to post them ill do it, hope to see some off your rig to

prowler48 08-30-2012 02:18 PM

Yeah its been a pretty big job. right now im in the process of putting in the nv4500. so far its been pretty difficult. Might need to do some floor modifications so i can get the dang thing up high enough to get it to the back of the engine without hitting the bottom of the truck. what tranny are u gonna put in?

codycatract 08-30-2012 05:12 PM

From e4od to nv4500 I was hoping I didn't have to beat in floor ill probably machine some aluminum body pucks but im only 20 with a budget haha got any pictures you can email me so far

prowler48 08-30-2012 10:33 PM

no i dont really have any pics yet but ill try n take some when i put it in. yeah i hear ya im 19 and on a budget too and in college so i dont get to work on it any other than on the weekends. im not sure what im gonna do with the whole situation. im gonna take the cover off on the tunnel where the shifter goes and see if that gives me enough room to play with but i think i may still have some issues back at the tcase. give me ur email and ill see if i can get u some pics. what all have u got done to urs so far?

codycatract 08-31-2012 07:47 AM

Haven't started since my wheeler is not street legal anymore I got to wait and get everything, how was putting the clutch pedals in that only part I don't wanna do

prowler48 08-31-2012 02:36 PM

havnt done it yet but its not too much of a worry to me. im more concerned about power steering and brakes because i have absolutly no experience with anything to do with them other than a blown brake line.

another idea for the whole tranny clearance issue is a body lift... ive never done one before or know how hard they are but its a thought. idk if a body lift would be enough to cover it though.

How was doing the clutch pedal with clutch master cylinder and the cable ran gas pedal

prowler48 09-03-2012 11:56 PM

i havent done either of those... the cable ran gas pedal will be pretty easy i think. i have one in my parts pile but i need to get a cable. The clutch pedal i dont think will be too bad. the hardest part will be getting up under the dash to mount it. Also, started puting in my body lift today. I got most of the cab done and it hasnt gone to terribly bad and theres definitly gonna be enough room for the tranny now. Definitly worth the money in my opinion.

codycatract 09-04-2012 02:07 PM

Did you just do one inch body lift from a gasser?

prowler48 09-04-2012 03:38 PM

I got a 3 inch kit from summit racing. I don't think a 1" would make enough room.
