superduty 5.9/8.3 cummins swap.

I have a Superduty that I want to do something amazing with. I have a 5.9 and a 8.3 cummins. I was thinking about doing something with that I got about 5 grand to start with. To get it running and moving. Any thoughts?

What's your end game for it? Puller? Parade attraction? Late night strip cruiser? Trailer tugger? Hot rod? Drag racer? There's a lot of ways to go that would definitely draw a line between the 5.9 and 8.3...especially since the 8.3 is probably not super friendly to high revs without a bit of work. The transmission will also create a dividing line, as in what you can source to mate behind either and can still handle the setup and driving style you have in mind. The 5.9 has been done in about every way possible...so if you're looking for a challange with a little shock and awe, then maybe the 8.3 will be the ticket. Narrow your scope a little bit to whatever fits your imagination best, then run with it! Good luck! :c:

Well I want something I can. Drive daily and haul my 3 car trailer a thousand miles a month. I have an allison 6 speed that was built up for my duramax but I sold it before I could put it in. I have 2 weeks off in September and would like to make something happen. The v10 is killing me on mpg. It has a 6 inch lift with 38.5 inch Boggers. I would love to kill a mustang every now and then also.

5.9 with the Allison. To much fabrication with the 8.3.

You sure it's the V10 doing all the killing of MPG? What are your axle gear ratios?

Sounds like you're wanting what everyone else wants; a 1000 hp daily driver, hypermiler, tow pig, stoplight bracket queen. The 8.3 is not going to fit that bill...not cheaply, anyway. Sounds like if you already have the 5.9 and a built Allison, then problem solved...get to wrenching! :tu: And if you are wanting to tow, be fuel conscious and have a little fun, maybe you should reconsider the lift and boogers...

Well I have a set f 4.56 gears for it. But with a cummins I would probably go with 4.10s. I don't know how to make the allison. Work other then the adapters but that's alright. I love my lifted truck. Lol. Wiring mounts transfer case. What else do I have to figure out.
