Water in Diesel
 

I have a 2004 F250 6.0 that I got about 3 months ago with about 140k miles on it. The water in fuel light came on recently after purchase and I drained the separator and changed the filters per the manual. The light came on again after about 2 days. I drained it again. The light came on again. I have now drained 3 times. The third time I let it drain for about 15 minutes. I have tried several bottles of stuff to remove water and/or clean the tank.

Am I supposed to let it drain until nothing more comes out? Am I supposed to reset the light somehow or is automatic? What should I try next?

if u have water in the fuel..then u need to drop the tank clean and dry it..then get about 10 gals. of good clean diesel...blow out the fuel lines change fuel filter reprime the fuel system ..that should get u started in the right direction..hope this helps..:tu:

I'm not sure what you mean about the 10 gals of good clean diesel. Am I supposed to blow that through the lines or put it in the tank? Is there somewhere I can find directions for blowing out the fuel lines? I'm pretty sure I could drop the tank and clean it out, but from there I'm a bit unclear about what you mean.

put the clean diesel in the tank once uv put the tank back in...were u fuel lines connect to the fuel tank..use compressed air to blow the bad fuel out of the lines..then replace the bad fuel filter with new one...rebleed the system and u should be good to go..except if u damaged the injectors..thats another can of worms!!

my water in fuel light has been on since the day i bought the truck. never have had any problems. i believe all the steps mentioned above are a littleeee too extreme for this. ever think it could just be a bad WIF sensor? :humm:

water is very bad if you get a load of it in your tank. if your are not seeing it when you drain your filter drain you might have a bad sensor.

If it was just a bad sensor, then why would he be able to drain water out?:humm:

sorry i didnt see that. if you are draining water out you need to get rid of it. pulling the tank is a sure way to get it out. :tu:

Drain it into a glass bottle so you can look at it and see if it's water or just fuel you're draining out, could be a bad sensor.:c:
